REPORT BY MR.
DAVID BEN KUMAH, PEARSON '78, BIOLOGY DEPT.
Amanfoo who visited their
Alma Mater would be able to bear witness to the visible signs of change
on campus. God was so good to us last year. Soon as the Acting Headmaster,
Mr. Twumasi, took over in January, we saw significant changes on campus.
With judicious use of school funds, over 21 staff bungalows were rehabilitated
for the first time since the 1970s. The renovation also extended to the
main classroom block, as well as the students' dormitories.
Through Mr. Twumasi's efforts,
Kumasi Metropolitan Authority released funds to renovate both Butler and
Freeman Houses. He also secured funds from GES to begin work on the Dinning
Hall, as well as a new classroom block between Serwah House and the Physics
Lab/Lecture Theatre (currently the Science Resource Centre). The Electricity
Corporation also installed a new transformer at Prempeh to solve the continuous
power outages on campus.
There is still significant work
to be done, the dormitories need rehabilitation, and a fence around the
school is long overdue. The fence project was started by the PTA in january
1996. However, it is far from completion. A project of this magnitude requires
significant resources beyond what can be provided by the PTA. Current staff
accomodation on campus is attrocious. Over 70% of current staff members
live off campus, with no means of reliable transpotation to the college.
The school library is near completion, and there is an urgent need to fill
it with books.
We need to work hard to prepare
the school for the 50th Anniversary in 1999, and Amanfoo who visit Ghana
should make it a point to visit the almer mater to see things for themselves.
As they say, a word to the wise is enough. Amanfoo Arise!!!
