Seniors Appreciation Year - 2000

Prempeh College is a school where every Senior has/had a Senior. We set up the year 2000 as Amanfoo "Seniors Appreciation Year" and asked Amanfoo to pay tribute to the seniors and mates who inspired them. This is what they wrote:

NAME: Andrew "Archiman" Manu
LOCATION: USA
DATE: February 26, 2000
MESSAGE: I would like to express my sincerest gratitute to a special senior who served both as my mentor and my tormentor. He is in the person of Dr. Yaw Twum-Barima (a.k.a Absalom) who currently resides in Canada. As a mentor, he took me under his wings and showed me how to use the "Tometer" to study even when Mr Goodfellow "Kwaku Gyata" was making his rounds. I benefitted from Dr. Twum's notes and he further protected me from the bullies. As a tormentor, he saw the potential in me as a hockey player, despite my lilliputian stature, and he pushed me to keep on keeping on. Man, it paid off and I had the honor of representing our nation in several international matches alongside players like Snr Sara Mensah (Pearson Hall) and Mr Kwamena Ahwoi (Freeman House). Do we still have any such seniors on campus? Let us encourage the seniors of today to serve as good role models like Snr. Twum and help some lost souls as I was during my formative years. Snr. Twum, I still owe you some d! oughnuts from the small canteen. One of these glorious days, I will get the canteen keeper to deliver them to you wherever you may be. I am grateful to Dr. Twum and I will owe him forever. Merci infiniment.

MESSAGE: I would like say a big thank you to two seniors - Francis Osei(Ozei '84)and Albert Oppong (Tee Tommy '85).

My terrible life as a tiny form one boy was made a lot happier by Francis (a Form 3 boy at the time)who offered to do some of my daily house chores for me so that I could attend the SU dawn prayer meetings!

Tee Tommy (form 2 boy) also allowed me to share his common room locker.

For the benefit of non-amanfoo, having access to common-room locker (a real priviledge not bestowed on common form one boys!)reduced your trips back to the domitory, where life was not always pleasant!!!!

These were brothers!

MESSAGE: I would like to express my appreciation to Senior George Osei-Bonsu (Class of 1971, Dining Hall Prefect). Senior Osei-Bonsu was many years my senior. When I was in form 1 (1970/71), he was in Lower 6. Senior Osei took me as his own brother when he came to lower 6. I had never met this guy in my life before coming to Prempeh. From Day1, we hit it off. A lot of people were surprised at the way this senior treated me, that they wondered if he was a member of my family or if I knew him before coming to Prempeh. He encouraged me to study hard and that if I did, I would never regret it in the future. Sometimes, when this senior goes to Katanga to mine on Friday and Saturday nights, he would wake me up to study when he returned to the dormitory. He even sometimes gave me his kerosene lantern to mine. (Yes, those were the days). He also protected me from other seniors who were real bullies. I remember on one occassion, a senior by name of Brako punished me and my ! punishment was to write Psalm 119 2x. Senior Osei Bonsu pleaded for me and the punishment was averted. But like a good parent, Senior Osei sometimes stepped back and let me suffer some of the conseuquences of my bad decisions. It gives me great joy and honour to tell Senior Osei Bonsu how much I appreciate all that he has done for me. I am in Canada right now and working for the Clarks companies. I am in the accounting department and hold a very responsible position. Thank you George for the seed you planted in me. It did not go to waste. May the Good Lord richly bless you. I really need to get in touch with you. If you get this message, you can call me at (905)454-8610. There are others I can talk about but that will be for another time.

MESSAGE: I want to express my appreciation to Dr. Akwasi Amponsah (Amanfoo '77) for his guidance and help in enabling me gain admission into Emory Medical School for the 2000 entering class. My thanks also goes out to Mr Sarfo Kantanka (AMANFOO'6?) and family, and also Senior Yaw Opoku (Amanfoo'93) for their emotional and psychological guidance since my coming to the U.S to pursue an education. God bless all the other people, though I can't write all their names, for their help in making my stay here worthwhile. Seniors Joshua Tei Lawman (Amanfoo '89)and Naa Sei Oppong (my older brother; Amanfoo'89) are real heroes to me since they made Prempeh College feel like home to me during my "homo" days as a form-oner. God bless all the seniors that have contributed to making Prempeh what it is.
