Dr. Derek Kofi Boahene, facial plastic surgeon at the Johns Hopkins Hospital,
was recently awarded The Jack
Anderson Award for excellence in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive
Surgery "for attaining the highest score in the nation on written and oral
examination administered by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgery (ABFPRS)."
The prize is given annually.
Dr. Boahene is a facial plastic surgeon and Assistant Professor at the Johns Hopkins School
of Medicine.
A Mayo trained surgeon, he studied Veterinary Medicine in Russia before coming to the US to
study human medicine.
Senior Boahene loves medical missions; he has been on medical mission trips to Peru and Ghana, where in 2004
he teamed up with Prempeh's own Dr. Peter Donkor, Head of Surgery at Komfo Anokye Hospital, along with
other international experts, to offer free surgical care to patients in Kumasi. He and his team
met with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II
at that time.
