Dr. Asamoa-Baah is WHO Assistant Director-General

We congratulate Dr. Anarfi Asamoa-Baah, who just commenced his duties as World Health Organization's Assistant Director-General in charge of Communicable Diseases. Dr. Asamoa-Baah was formerly Senior Policy Advisor to the Director-General. He began his new duties on July 21, 2003. He was appointed Executive Director, External Relations and Governing Bodies in July 2000. Since last year, he has been the Executive Director for Health Technology and Pharmaceuticals.

Formerly Director of Medical Services in the Ministry of Health, Ghana, Dr. Asamoa-Baah has been working with the W.H.O since 1998. He has been very instrumental in reforms in the health sector, in the civil service and in budget and financial systems in the winder public service in Ghana. He has served on a number of intersectoral committees and taught part-time at the Ghana Medical School and the School of Public Health.

He initially trained as a doctor with special interest in paediatrics.
