The Class of 2011 checked in at Sofoline on Monday October 1. They are among
the first to report for school as most of the students admitted to other
schools are yet to report.
The form one boys were welcomed with a Red Cross banner, which invited them to join the society
Some will report on Tuesday with the last batch
set to come in before Friday. This batch will be the first to be admitted
under the new educational reform. Under this system, the Senior Secondary
Schools will now be called Senior High School execpt Prempeh which still has
the "college" attached to it.
They will spend four solid years at Sofoline. Most of them were brought in
by their parents who were very glad that their wards had gained admission
into their "dream" Prempeh College after an anxious period of waiting.
One
parent remarked, "The school is very conducive for learning. It's not easy
to gain admission into Prempeh College and during my days, we hailed all
our friends who got admitted into Prempeh."
Form one boys enjoy jollof rice on the first day
The strict rule of reporting before 6pm was applied as those who reported
late had to go back home. It was noted however that only a third of the
total number of 600 students admitted had reported. It seems that most of
them are not aware that school is beginning quite early for Prempeh as
most of their friends who are supposed to go to other schools are still
home.
Students of YAGSS will report on Saturday October 6. Anyway, those who
have come early have already settled down and feeling at home. They've had
their first taste of the most popular dining hall food, 'coloured rice.'
Their seniors have been kind enough so far and have been giving them some
advice on how to excel at Sofoline and make life enjoyable.
