If care is not taken, Akwasi Owusu-Achiaw - Prempeh's ninth headmaster - will leave Prempeh College in a disgrace that exceeds Uriah
Heep - the villainous, treacherous
character from Dickens' David Copperfield.
Imagine a headmaster so atrocious and villainous that one of his predecessors come out of his retirement to criticise him. Owusu-Achiaw is
so inefficient
that there are only two people who currently support him: himself and his mistress/Secretary - the principal beneficiary of Achiaw's corrupt practices.
R.T. Sackey awards Senior Sobotey in 1994 for helping bring the prestigious inaugural Science Quiz
trophy to Sofoline in 1994. Sackey won the competition twice in a 3-year period - a mark that is unprecedented - and retired, safe in the knowledge that
his imprint was indelible.
Former Headmaster Rueben T. Sackey - the man with the best record of all Ghana Headmasters in the history of the National Science & Maths Quiz -
is appealing to Prempeh Board of Governors and the Old Boys Association to come together to rescue Prempeh College immediately.
In a series of
handwritten letters sent from his Accra home to prempeh.org,
entitled "Rebuilding Prempeh College," Sackey laments the terrible situation at the alma mater today.
He is speaking out about how Prempeh College is shockingly deteriorating with amazing rapidity. What is baffling
to him is the silence of the Old Boys.
The fact that the current occupant of his former cherished position does not stay at the school to attend to the College's activities is particularly heart-breaking
for Sackey. Regarding Owusu-Achiaw's penchant for staying away from the campus and attending to his own personal business, Sackey recently
wrote, "Headmasters should be close to the students, know
the problems of the students and find solutions to them. The master-student relationship is really an essential tool for rebuilding
Mother Prempeh."
Sackey also expressed disappointment at Owusu-Achiaw's hatred for academics and the lack of passion he shows towards
the prestigious National Science & Maths Quiz competition.
He said, "The College's administration must revitalize the desire to win the National Science & Maths Quiz Competition.
Winning this contest will uplift the image of the school and also urge the students on."
One of Headmaster Sackey's statements is presented below in it's entirety. Prempeh.org will publish more in the coming days, including excerpts of
his forthcoming biographical masterpiece and Prempeh memoirs. His memoir, which illustrates how great Prempeh used to be in the past, is
currently in press. He donated both his longhand version and the typed manuscript to this website.
