The worst Speech Day in Prempeh College history was held at Sofoline earlier today.
The ceremony was so bad that by 11 am the program had ended.
The invited dignitaries, including Nana Asantehene, President JA Kufuor (who is in Portugal), and Mr. Ato Essuman (Chief Director
at the Ministry of Education) -- all Old Boys -- and the invited Minister of Education, Mr. Dominic Fobih did
not turn up for the event. Only Senior Kwadwo Mpiani, Minister of Presidential Affairs, came. He delivered
the keynote address.
Apparently the Old Boys have not been happy with this headmaster and the used this occasion as a fodder to
protest the Headmaster's incompetence. Stories that have appeared on this website has made him extremely
unpopular among our people.
Even Nana Akyempemhene, a former Senior Prefect who is always present at such Prempeh events did not bother
to attend. Nor did Nana Mamponghene or any of the Amanfoo in Manhyia Palace.
This is the first time that this has happened in our history. While the President could not have attended anyway because he is in Portugal,
it is shocking that none of our prominent old boys failed to turn up.
The old boys held a meeting with President Kufuor about 2 weeks ago about this particular headmaster. It is
believed people advised him that Akwasi Owusu-Achiaw is not a competent or honourable man to make bedfellows
with. Amanfoo appealed for a new Headmaster to be sent down to Sofoline immediately to salvage what is left of the once
great Prempeh College.
Prempeh.org can confirm that Mr. Owusu-Achiaw travelled to Accra in an attempt to see the President of Ghana
a few weeks ago but returned to Kumasi in disgrace when he was told at The Castle that the President would not
to see him.
This was also the first time that a Prempeh headmaster failed to address the audience on the school's academic achievements over the past year.
WASSCE certificate exam reports were conspiciously missing from the Headmaster's address because the boys failed the exam miserably.
While OWASS achieved 122 "A" grades in Integrated Science, Prempeh earned only 72 A's in the subject, though we presented more candidates than the
Santasi school. The Owareans crushed Prempeh in every category on the exam, which is unprecedented.
At the end of the ceremony, Owusu-Achiaw furiously declined prempeh.org's request to submit his speech for publication.
