Closing Assembly Report

Thursday, July 26, 2007

As tradition demands, the closing assembly was held today at the forecourt of the college @ 7am so as to allow the form ones to take their last paper which was English and the Form twos, Integrated Science. It began with an Opening Prayer by the College Chaplain Rev. Laryea. There was also a scripture reading and exhortation by the Chaplain.

Mr. Koduah and Mr Yeboah took turns to give out some announcements. The Snr. Housemaster urged the students to exhibit the character and suban that they have learnt throughout the term on campus. He also warned them to pay their school fees a week before reopening to avoid any embarassment.

The College Anthem was then sung and the flag of the college lowered.

Headmasters Message:

The headmaster also warned the students to abstain from all social vices especially the ones that normally face students when they go home for vacation. They should resist the temptation of immoral sex, clubbing, smoking and drinking. The chaplain was however nodding in appreciation of the words from the father of the college.

He then announced that 10th September is reopening so the students have so many weeks to stay in the house but he didn't stop short of warning them to read a lot and study so hard. This he said would enable them have sharp brains when they return to school. Some masters would organise classes so they should take part in them.

Cash Presentation:

The headmaster then gave out the prizes of the winners of the essay competition. Each winner was awarded $550 by prempeh.org for being adjudged best writers of the school.

The Headmaster urged other students to take part in such competitions as they would help them a great deal. He then commended prempeh.org for organising the competition and asked for more competitions of such nature.

The Science and Maths Quiz contestants were also commended and implored the masters to help the form two contestants so they can lift the trophy next year.

Trophy Presentation:

Assistant Headmaster Mr. Yeboah presented the prempeh.org soccer league trophy to Aggrey House. In addition, players from the Top 5 houses of the soccer league were presented with prempeh.org soccer league tee-shirts. Each of the 14 players of Top 5 houses was given a shirt.

Aggrey won the league by beating G'berg by only a point, while Opoku Ware placed 3rd, Ramseyer 4th and Butler 5th.

Because of insubordination and general indiscipline during matches, Ramseyer's prizes went to 6th-placed Pearson, the second year in a row Ramseyer has been snubbed. When the announcement was made, Freeman and Butler booed Ramseyer, while Pearson celebrated.

The cash award for the champions and the runner-up will be presented at Opening Assembly next term.

Final Message:

The boys were asked to spend their whole vacation browsing the website, especially the section on prominent oldboys "so that when they get into an argument with Owareans, they will have something to say, particularly since no Santasi boy knows any oldboy of their school." The boys cheered and applauded loudly.

Finally, the students were told they will be welcome with "The Stool" - the college annual magazine next term.

Closing Prayer:

The closing prayer was said.

MHB (Methodist Hymm Book) 870 was then sung and there was a benediction by the Chaplain.
