Two Treasonous OldBoys Stripped of their Amamfoo membership

Saturday, March 23, 2007

The spirit that I have seen
May be the devil, and the devil hath power
To assume a pleasing shape.

- William Shakespeare, Hamlet, act 2, sc. 2.

Traditionally, people who pass through Prempeh College become recognized automatically as members of this giant community of Old Boys Association called Amanfoo. But for two Amanfoo, that honour of being an Amanfoo has been taken away from them.

The Prempeh College Board of Governors at the Amanfoo General Meeting of Thursday March 21, stripped Kwaku Ohene-Frempong, Class of '66 and one Akwasi Agyemang, a product of Ramseyer House, of this Amanfoo "citizenship."

Ohene-Frempong: His countenance in this photo reminds us all of Shakespeare's briliant observation that "There’s daggers in men’s smiles." (Macbeth, act 2, sc. 3, l. 140.)

In 2005, precisely on August 15, Ohene-Frempong was tried at Sofoline after being invited from his U.S. base by the all-powerful Board of Governors to answer charges of treason, including, among many things, planning to have some prempeh.org staff murdered because his jealousy-driven, me-too website -- prempeh.com -- had failed to flourish.

He was convicted along with his chief abettor Francis Yaw Berkoh Nketiah, Aggrey '79, who also attended the hearing.

After admitting regret and serving the punishment imposed on them by the Board, Ohene-Frempong and Yaw Berkoh were expected to turn a new leaf.

But, just like Sisyphus, condemned by the gods to spend eternity pushing a huge stone to the summit of a massive hill, only to let slip his grasp at the very last, so Ohene-Frempong can never quite conquer his inner demons. Ohene has for the past two years consistently tried to destabilise Prempeh College, including hiring thugs like Agyemang to distract the College. The catalogue of charges against Ohene-Frempong, who was booed by Prempeh students on his December 2005 Speech Day appearance, is more extensive than the docket of charges filed against all of Hitler's men at the Nuremberg trials.

With an incredible mastery of techniques of sabotage and with the most flagitious wickedness, Ohene not only attempted with several means to disrupt Prempeh sports programs through Akwasi Agyemang, he also tried to sabotage the Prempeh.org Fun fair held last December and the recently-held Amanadehyee Congress. Publication of the Prempeh School Magazine with the prempeh.org stool on the cover was enough to ingnite extreme jealousy in Ohene-Frempong, who phoned the masters involved in the publication and threatened them on the phone repeatedly.

Kwaku’s name suggests pain and sorrow to the heart of all Prempeh teachers, who often cogitate over Ohene's wickedness and the probable roots of his seeming Satanic influence at their gatherings. (The fact that Agyemang came to Sofoline and told his fellow Prempeh grads on the teaching staff, "I'm Akwasi Agyemang, a medical doctor at Korle-Bu; you people never amounted to anything, that's why you're here," doesn't help their case. NOTE: This despicable comment was made without regard to the fact that Agyemang's own son sits in a Prempeh College classroom being taught by these same teachers).

Ohene's penchant for threatening the Headmaster and other teachers at Sofoline has earned him the nickname "Owudinii Kwaku" (i.e., The Most Wicked Kwaku) among Prempeh boys.

And only the keen eye of Senior Prefect Ainoo prevented a riot 3 weeks ago when Ohene-Frempong sent his foot soldier Agyemang to Sofoline when we celebrated Ghana@50 at Prempeh.

But perhaps the most damning indictment of Ohene-Frempong's wickedness is manifest in the way he sent Agyemang to disrupt the funeral of our beloved Hon. Kwabena Sarfo, the late Member of Parliament for Offinso South, in Offinso in October last year, when all Amanfoo and the entire Sofoline community were mourning the deceased in Offinso. Only the timely intervention of our Old Boys President prevented a mayhem at that time.

At Thursday night's meeting, a majority of Amanfoo voted to have them ex-communicated completely from the Amanfoo Society. However, the Board was more lenient, offering instead to suspend them indefinately. The Board Chairman ended the meeting with the following proclamation: "Ohene-Frempong and Akwasi Agyemang have been suspended indefinately from this association. They should never attend any Prempeh meetings wherever one is held. They should not identify themselves as Amanfoo."

While this is the second suspension for the vinegarish Agyemang, he is seen as somewhat redeemable, unlike Ohene-Frempong, who is past the help of a clergy! At the end of his 2005 trial at Sofoline, a special prayer request was made to the Bishops on the Prempeh Board, "to help free him from the clutch of the devil that controls him."

Just like Noah, whose children "walked backwards, averting their eyes from the sight of their father lying drunk and naked in his tent (Genesis 9: 20-23)," so do Ohene-Frempong's own children revile him because of his wickedness.

That is why this drastic, unprecedented measure had to be taken against him and his bedfellow. And the fact that they are the only two to suffer this fate in our history tells a whole lot about their ferocious character.
