NAGRAT now braced up for full strike

Monday, September 4, 2006

CITI News

The Greater Accra regional Chairman of the National Association of Graduate Teachers, Angel Cabono told the Citi breakfast show this morning that the teachers are now braced up for a full fledge strike.

Graduate teachers are demanding a review of their salary, the removal of Acting Director General of the Ghana Education service, Mr Michael Nsowah and calling for the implementation of all MOUs and agreements signed between NAGRAT and the Government.

NAGRAT was told by the Minister of Education Paapa Owusu Ankomah at their meeting on Thursday to give Government some time pending Government's efforts at drawing up a long-term holistic structure to cater for workers' salary.

The Committee is made up of the minister for public sector reforms; Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, Minister of Finance; Kwodwo Baah Wiredu and the minister of Manpower and Employment. But NAGRAT says waiting for such an outcome would be too burdensome on graduate teachers.
