Lets Save our Trees

Wednesday, May 31, 2006

When the last tree dies, the last man also dies. This saying emphatically tells us the benefits derived from trees. Man lives on oxygen. The air that we breathe contains the oxygen which burn the food we eat to release the energy to the body during respiration.

Prempeh campus looking green and gorgeous in 1949. The trees were important to the school then as they are to Sofoline now.

One would then ask how is the oxygen acquired? Oxygen is obtained naturally from the process of photosynthesis by plants. By now we all understand why the above saying is a solid base for protecting trees.

One distinguishing feature of Prempeh College is our serene atmosphere which is composed of the neat compound and the trees which denotes our favourite colour, green.

However, walking over campus lately, one can easily notice some sort of on going deforestation. The utmost worry is that if these trees are cut, can we then boast of the serene environment that we once had? These trees provided a lot of shade for most of us during our glorious days at Prempeh College.

Remember how we used to sit under some of these trees to conduct a group assignment and sometimes tell stories and share jokes. I suggest that the authorities in charge of the college stop the deforestation act or else provide adequate reasons why it is necessary to cut these trees.
