Prempeh.org wins "Best Website" Award
Tuesday, August 8, 2006
Our website has been adjudged the best in the nation in the secondary schools websites category. The award came from the
Advanced Information Technology Institute/Ghana-India Kofi Annan Center for Excellence in ICT in Accra.
Unbeknown to us, the organizers had entered prempeh.org into the annual prestigious competition
which was held on June 29th. The Chairman of the function was Dr. Osei Boeh-Ocansey (PEF), and the Guest Speaker Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey.

The award was then sent to Prempeh campus directly.
We missed the special awards ceremony held in Accra because the
Assistant Headmaster (recipient of the notice) was not in town; we were not able to find out about
the awards ceremony until now. And since we were not expecting to be included in such a competition, we never checked their website
to follow the press release until
today, when Assistant Headmaster Yeboah called to inform us.
The Prempeh College masters have proudly cherished the certificate issued to the College, which is being framed
for display at the College Office. The Headmaster says he will officially introduce it to the staff at a meeting to be held later.
When school reopens, he will show it to the whole school.
Assistant Headmaster Yeboah, who received the award, called to thank us for the "good work" we
are doing. Among the prizes we received are a 12 month web hosting service from Euband Networks
Ghana and a 3 month homepage banner advert from
Businessghana.com.
Furthermmore, they sent us a citation stating that they "appreciate the daily
updates of the website and the site's uniqueness." According to the award citation, prempeh.org is "simply unique."
The success of the prempeh.org website project is truly stunning. Several of the internet cafes in Kumasi have used our website as their main homepage, including the ones
at Tanoso, Ashtown and Oforikrom. Several of them use our website to actually attract visitors.
The owners of the Oforikrom one has a banner that reads, "For news, visit cnn.com, for education go to prempeh.org." Also, the cafes on Legon campus, Assylum Down and Caprice, among several others, have our website
set up as their main homepage.
In addition, several university students in both Accra and Kumasi -- females included -- have
downloaded the Stool in the center of our main page as their wallpaper, according to reports from those campuses.
Even more noteworthy is the way in which some radio stations take news items from
prempeh.org reports because they have realised that in national sports and academic competitions, our website is more reliable in
news reportage than the Ghana News Agency. Our coverage of the inter-regionals sports festival in the far-away Sunyani last September, in which the press borrowed photos from us,
bears testimony.
Which is probably why people get frustrated when we go for more than a day without updating the site with new information.
