So far, no sex talk
Monday, May 15, 2006
When it comes to matters relating to human sexuality, our headmaster is extremely shy.
The headmaster's nervousness and shyness about human sexuality is mystifying. So far,
he has not talked to the Sofoline boys about prostitution.
Last month, The Chronicle published an article that claimed that Prempeh boys
rank first among schools that patronise prostitution in Adum, Kumasi.
The flawed survey was designed predominantly to humiliate President Kufuor and other
Amanfoo who may run for the Presidency in 2008.
The Headmaster's phone was besieged by the media and the radio stations mocked us for
several weeks.
Cartoons were drawn in the national papers that depicted Prempeh boys chasing prostitutes
and some
Amanfoo in green shirts taking prostitutes to "Hotel Kufuor," where Senior Chief
Kufuor (Aggrey '82), owner of the controversial Hotel, receives them warmly.
Morning shows on tv set up programmes castigating us for immorality.
They say we lack discipline and "since the departure of Headmaster Sackey in 1996/97, the school has been in a mess
so Prempeh should even be closed down."
Ludicrous though the Chronicle report seemed, we feel that it is worth holding a general meeting with the boys and
educating them about the dangers inherent in such practice, if they were to be tempted to try that
in the future. Besides, their innocence notwithstanding, the boys need to be explained
the significance of that story and why the nation was mocking us. Such a discussion will
not be suggestive of an admission of guilt.
We know the headmaster is very shy about sexuality. He can easily delegate this task to the
housemasters to talk to the boys in their Common Rooms during roll-call next weekend.
