Accra, April 19, GNA - Ghana for the first time tomorrow April 20, join three other West African English speaking countries to take the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Hitherto second cycle schools examination in Ghana was coded as Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE). The other three countries are The Gambia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.

About 122,621 candidates from 546 recognised second cycle institutions in Ghana would write the examination from tomorrow Thursday April 20 to Thursday June 8 starting first with Oral English. The candidates are made up of 68,978 boys and 53,643 girls.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mrs Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, Senior Public Relations Officer of West African Examinations Council (WAEC) advised candidates to desist from examination malpractices and be wary of persons who claimed to have in their possession question papers of any kind, since that could lead to the cancellation of their results. "WAEC wishes to add that it is very alert and will not hesitate to deal with any candidate, school centre, supervisor or invigilator who infringes any of the rules or tries to disrupt the conduct of the examinations in any manner," It added.

The statement assured the public that all necessary measures had been put in place to ensure that WASSCE was conducted successfully, and wished candidates the best of luck.
