    C50,000 CASH CONTROVERSY RESOLVED

    Thursday, January 5, 2006

Following our report about the C50,000-per-head controversy, the Headmaster and his staff have resolved that issue as well.

It may be recalled that the headmaster made the students bring in C50,000 each from midterm holidays intended for purchase of "laboratory chemicals."

We failed to make it public initially hoping that the staff could make him change his mind. One month later when the controversy escalated, we published the story which probably compelled them to take action.

The money has since been applied towards general campus maintenance, including the painting of the facilities ahead of the 56th Speech Day in December.

When we reported that nearly 100% of the staff opposed the idea of the fee collection, the headmaster became worried about how information could leak from the Staff Room to the website. They probed how we got to learn about the staff opposition to the 50,000 cedi levy which both science and non-science students had to pay.

Prempeh.org is taking this opportunity to remind our Headmaster and his staff that we are now in the 21st century -- the age of technology; no longer do we need "dawuro" in order to spread messages. Instead of trying to hinder flow of information -- which will be a Sisyphean task -- they should rather try to refrain from voluntary wrongdoing. We assure them that if they fulfill such a goal, they will enjoy good repute among all men for all time to come.

But the contrary may befall them if they pursue the futile goal of suppressing unfavourable information.
