    AWURABENA LOSES CONTRACT

    Monday, September 5, 2005

President Kufuor received his College cloth when he came to campus to commission the new Science Block in 2001.
Awurabena, the famous dressmaker in Kumasi who is licensed by the College to hold the monopoly over the sewing of Prempeh College uniforms, has lost her contract with Prempeh.

All the college uniforms (green shirts, school cloth and the dark-brown khaki and white trousers, as well as our college tie) were made by this lady. If a green shirt was not made by Awurabena, then it is not a Prempeh shirt.

But because she is also the sole designer for several other schools in Ashanti, it was difficult for her to deliver Prempeh uniforms on time when the College needed them most. Clothes for form one boys were usually delayed for months.

Prempeh has now replaced her with a new company, VYTAL Prints, which is operated by an old boy. Vytal's first task will be to dress up this incoming form one class. Prempeh.org visited Awurabena's shop a few weeks ago. We were told that since she no longer hold the contract, it will take for about a month for her to design a Prempeh uniform for any person.
