    INTENSE COMPETITION AT SOFOLINE

    Monday, September 13, 2004

Every child in Ghana wants a place among "the lucky 500." Even the Army Commander in charge of 4BM was seen on campus on this day searching for a seat for his son.
Because of the limited first year seats available to applicants this year, the competition for places is very fierce and the headmaster is required by national mandate to select only 500.

The Administrator of the College, Mr. Gyabaah (no relation to the immediate-past Senior Prefect), informed this website today that the headmaster will select only those with 8, 9 or 10 "ones." About 475 of such outstanding kids will be selected, which will be supplemented with a list of 25 people accepted by protocol. That means that the Royal family, as well as Methodist and Presbyterian Churches and Oldboys will be limited bringing in only 25 students, with the King most likely to get the lion's share.

Education officers from the Ghana Education Service came to campus to remind our Headmaster that he risks losing his position if he fails to adhere to the 500 maximum limit for Prempeh's 55th entering class.

Whatever the outcome, Prempeh's entering class will be regarded as the best in the nation in terms of entrance exam credentials. Only time will tell how this much-vaunted class will turn out. Good luck to the lucky few who made it.
