    PREMPEH TOPS MEDICAL SCHOOL ADMISSIONS

    Wednesday, September 1, 2004

Of 8 Amanfoo who went for Medical school interview at the University of Ghana, 4 of them were selected to enter the medical school while one (1) went to the Dental school. This year Prempeh produced the highest number -- 5 students -- at the medical school out of the 76 that were selected. Of the 76, 11 were female students. The Presecans who always compete with Prempeh over the highest number of students who make it to the medical school bowed to us since not more than 2 of them made it through the interview.

It is now confirmed at the Biological sciences department at the nation's premier university that no school rivals Prempeh when it comes to making it for the interview and even coming out unscathed through the interview. For this particular Biological Sciences class, Prempeh had 12 students, for which a remarkable number of eight made it to the admissions interview. Grapevine has it that a sister school in Kumasi produced none and we are yet to know the authenticity of that. But it is widely and clearly known to all that while Prempeh have 18 strong representatives in the current Biological Sciences second year class, the sister school has only 3 candidates.

This outstanding Prempeh record is the stuff that great schools are made of and these are the factors that should go into national rankings, in lieu of simply counting the 1st, 2nd or 3rd position in an internally-held, internally-supervised national SSSCE Exams, which a school that lacks integrity could cheat her way through. On the other hand, if a school places 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the internally-supervised national SSCE and place at the top of University admissions as well as achieve greatness in National Inter-Schools Quizes, then that school should be considered par excellent. Any school with a high SSCE ranking and a consistently incongruent record in other areas, such as University Admissions rankings, should be suspicious of. Worryingly, however, some people do not see it this way.

Obviously credit should go to our Headmaster and his hard-working staff who traditionally shoulder the blame when our SSCE ranking is not matchless, but rarely get recognised for honours such as this.

The names of the Prempeh boys who made it to the medical school this year are:

    • Adjei-Darko Emmanuel (Agama)
    • Kwaku Boakye-Yiadom
    • Theodore Wordui
    • Asiamah Nana Kwame
    • Daniel Opoku (Azar)

Kwaku Boakye-Yiadom represented Prempeh along side Elliot Asare and Peter (Pier) in the 2001 edition of the National Maths & Science quiz. Theodore Wordui was the Assistant Dining Hall Prefect in 2000. Asiamah was the Assistant Protocol Prefect in 2001. prempeh.org will bring you more about these Leaders of Tomorrow, so stay tuned.
