NEW COMPUTERIZED ADMISSIONS SYSTEM AT PREMPEH
Tuesday, August 10, 2004
The Government of Ghana has selected Prempeh College as one of the
pilot schools to implement the new computerized admissions system for September 2004
form one entrance class.
The Ministry of Education has developed this new "corruption-proof" admissions system for the BECE exams.
Candidates for admission to secondary schools will rank their schools of coice which
computer will present to the respective schools for those schools to select their preferred candidates
from the computer.
This way, each school will select his best candidates based on merit. This will eliminate the culture of
bribery and corruption in the admission system throughout the country, since the power to admit students
would be taken away from the Headmasters and reposed in the computers.
The Minister of Education has stipulated that his alma mater can accept no more than 1500 in the school. This means that we could have
at most 500 well-qualified students per class, selected by computer.
To this end, the Headmaster, his deputy and the Acting Senior Housemaster are leaving for Accra to learn
about implementation of the new system and the selection of the next form one class, which is the reason why there is not going to
be the traditional closing assembly this term.
School reopens on September 20th, 2004.
