Agyeman Badu Akosa, former Director General of Ghana Health Service and presidential candidate
of CPP and Vice President Aliu Mahaha have opened leads over their close for the CPP and NPP presidential flag bearership,
according a poll conducted in country by the Ghana Youth Movement for the International press. The survey taken on
Saturday morning shows Akosa with a 25% lead over his close rival Papa Kwesi Nduom among CPP supporters. Mahama's lead over
Akuffo Addo and Alan Kyeremanten is too close to call. When John Bomfeh, a youth leader and poll strategist for the Akosa
campaign, was contacted, he said they are not concern about the polls findings and explain that Ghanaian voters will only vote
for a candidate who will put the interest of the nation before self and is also beyond reproach. The poll findings also
shows CPP has overtaken NPP and NDC as the party that Ghanaian voters think are well positioned to address the needs of all
Ghanaians and not just the rich few.
Among NPP candidates Aliu Mahama's lead over his close rivals Akuffo Addo and Alan Kyeremanten is just
half a percentage point, more a dead heat among the 3 candidates.
At the national level it is
interesting to see Mahama head-t-head match up with Akosa, however among the NPP supporters, Akosa's
social and economic positions may be beginning to soften their enthusiasm for his presidency. Many
respondents who see themselves as floating voters say they will consider voting for Akosa for president.
Among this group 60% say they will definitely vote for Akosa. With nearly a year before the presidential
elections the findings confirms the resurgent CPP's common touch with the voters.
