Mpraeso-Kwahu, Jan. 25, GNA - The Kwahu Traditional Council in the Eastern Region is to establish a two billion cedis educational fund to offer scholarship to needy but brilliant school children in the area. The fund would be launched during this year's Easter festivities at a durbar to be held at Abetifi-Kwahu.
Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng II, Kwahumanhene and President of the Council announced this when addressing the members at Mpraeso-Kwahu. He urged citizens from the area, Kwahu South, West and Afram Plains assemblies, Kwahuman Associations in Europe, the United States of America and Kwahu businessmen to contribute to the fund.
Daasebre Boateng appealed to individuals and institutions in the area to refrain from establishing individual funds to ensure adequate funds were mobilised to cater for the educational needs of pupils and students in the area.
On the destruction of farm produce by cattle and Fulani herdsmen, Daasebre Boateng said some chiefs in the area had volunteered to release lands for the construction of kraals for the cattle in Kwahu South and Afram Plains Districts.
He appealed to the Afram Plains Assembly to enact bye-laws to stop the mass production of charcoal in the district to save the environment from further degradation.
Madam Susana Mensah, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, urged Kwahu South and Afram Plains assemblies to ensure early submission of
estimates and plans for the construction of the kraals to the Eastern Regional Co-ordinating Council for approval and construction
before commencement of this year's farming season.
