Rising & Falling
Here is where we observe our school and its people closely, record all our observations and issue a periodic report on which people are climbing up, and which ones are sinking fast.
So who is rising and who is falling?
= Rising; = Falling
May 2004
HEADMASTER ASAMOAH OWUSU-ACHIAW who purchased new kits for the athletics and football teams and inspired the boys to victory. Our Headmaster has been very supportive of developments at Prempeh. He has also gotten very tough on discipline. If he can establish a stringent admissions policy through which only the brightest of the best can be admitted to Prempeh - as has been the custom in former times - Amanfoo will have a high regard for him. His heart is in the right place.
THE VICTORIOUS FOOTBALL TEAM
for winning the Milo soccer tournament, which is a prestigious event that brings a significant amount of money and media attention to the winning school. Since its inception, OKESS and KASS have dominated it; this is the first breakthrough year for Prempeh. Congratulations to these outstanding boys for bringing to Sofoline this famous trophy.
MISS OTOO the legendary English mistress who coached and trained our debate team to the prestigious National championship. Thank you, Madam, for making us all proud. All Amanfoo over the world are proud of you.
WOFA K. our former great Physics and Mathematics teacher who, after just two months of being appointed Assistant Headmaster of Konongo Odumasi Secondary School, rose to the full Headmasterhip position. He's now at the helm of steering that insitution and making their students turn Prempeh-like in their manners. As a Headmaster, he will still be breaking down complex calculations for the Konongo folks.
SENIOR PREFECT GYABAAH for continually making everything worthwhile.
COACH AGYENGO the outstanding coach/trainer who lead our football team to their first ever Milo trophy. Mr. Agyemang Duah is also leading the boys to the Super-Zonals Athletics competition on April 15, which he has promised to win. The College has already won the Zone D division.
He has even issued a statement that sums his mettle: "All the old boys should pray for us and to end it all, no one should panic since I can never ever be defeated by OWASS."
SENIOR MAN UNITED (SPORTS PREFECT) Besides being a key member of the Milo Football Championship squad, he played a pivotal role in getting us the live broadcast of the Inter-Co Athletics festival at the Kumasi Sports Stadium. This was the first such sports event to be broadcast around the world for Ghanaians. Thanks for making it possible, Sir.
EBEN WIREKO the 2001/2002 Assistant Senior Prefect currently at Legon who organized and coordinated a Legon-Amanfoo fan group to support our debate team at the National final at the GNAAT Hall in Accra, when our boys faced local PRESEC on March 3rd, 2004. Mrs. Otoo yesterday sent him a special "thank you" note. The English Madam was impressed by the former ASP's outstanding contribution.
THE DEBATE TEAM (OHENE KONADU P.Y, GYEABOUR K.O, KHARLIQ A, DEMETIAH W.) who in a highly articulate fashion
elevated the name of our alma mater by winning the 2004 National Independence Day Debate in front of a national television audience. These history makers certainly belong to the Amanfoo Hall of Fame.
Also, by becoming nationally famous they have already made an impact on the minds of Universities' admissions committees. Opportunities for these bright young boys are limitless.
THE CHIEF MATRON
for the inspiring contribution she has made in boosting the spirit of the Prempeh athletes.
MR. LARTEY (SPORTSMASTER) He cannot be thanked enough for his contribution to our ever-escalating prestige in sports. The prestigious Milo trophy has
already been won; if we win the Superzo Athletics as well, we should carry him shoulder-high!
SENIOR AMANFOO IN GHANA who have reacted to the AMAM-ADEHYEE Congress with
reactions veering between detachment and condescension. The Amanfoo in Ghana have consistently shown a
lack of concern about the young Amanfoo and their Congress, probably because they refuse to be acquainted with the young ones.
Amanfoo-USA are the ones being pursued for funds mainly because the ones in Ghana do not support the advancement of our young ones.
Which is not surprising in a country where the youth are regarded as mere diversions from momentous discussions.
AMANFOO AT LEGON UNIVERSITY for providing the needed support to our champion
debate team when they came to the capital city for the National Championship during Independence week as well as for being the most organized University-based Amanfoo group.
AMANFOO AT UST (KNUST) do these guys actually exist? We rarely hear from them.
SUBAN NE NIMDEE (KNOWLEDGE & INTEGRITY)
It is interesting to know that in the Hall of Fame of Ghana's most wicked, no Prempeh man has ever been inducted! The National Reconciliation Council proceedings are still ongoing and none of the barbaric men
who tortured their fellow humans in our nation's history, came from our Golden School. No Prempeh man has ever set up
any kangaroo court to seize assets and torture his fellow men. And neither has any Prempeh man staged a coup or murdered his fellow countrymen.
Can we say the same about a certain school in Kumasi?
Little wonder, then, that Prempeh teachers have become the most sought after candidates for Headmastership positions all over the nation, where they will be expected to extend our
Suban ne Nimdee philosophy.
THE SCIENCE QUIZ TEAM
for the outstanding show they have been putting on this year. Not only have they won the SRC Zonal Sience Quiz, they have also won the Ashanti Inter-Schools Maths Quiz.
The main one will come next month - where they will win the prestigious national title - again.
SENIOR HOUSEMASTER MR ODOOM
for having consistently refused to give our athletes special meals at the dining hall. The Senior Housemaster
feels that no athletes deserve any special diet (such as fish, meat or milk) at the dining hall because "they came to school to
study and not live like superstars" (according to the paraphrase given to this website by one of the masters). How MYOPIC! Is he not aware that these boys who are sacrificing for the good of Mother
Prempeh deserve to eat nourishing meals in order to gain
and/or maintain the healthfullness necessary for that physical undertaking? Isn't it sad that even the Matron can donate to the athletes but the Senior Housemaster
lacks the foresight to set up something similar for our boys? The foodseller on our streets have realized the importance of boosting the morale of our athletes, yet our Senior Housemaster cannot envision the same principle.
Indeed it is very disheartening to see the way athletes are treated in our alma mater, and for a Senior Housemaster - the father of all the boarders - to equate such exigency of athletics fitness with providing special favours borders on myopia. At least this batch of athletes do not
have to buy their own track suits and athletics kit, because of the magnanimity of our ever-supportive Headmaster.
Education Minister Hon. Baah Wiredu, Class of '74
|
EDUCATION MINISTER HON. BAAH-WIREDU because he is simply fantastic!
FESTUS "FELLA" OWUSU the former 1st Assistant DHP who was demoted on four
charges of:
- insulting the senior prefect during a Prefects Council meeting when he came in late and was shabbily dressed.
- threatening to beat up the 1st Assistant SP when he questioned his conduct on campus.
- preventing the senior prefect from entering the Dining Hall because he claims that is his "office".
- having an affair with one of the matrons at the pantry.
Dear Senior Fella: We are sure you have learned your lesson by now. Prempeh Prefects - especially the SPs - have always enjoyed
vast respect from the student body. You do not ban the Senior Prefect from the D-Hall. The D-Hall was indeed your office, but as
President of the student body, he reserves the power to encroach in "the office" of any of his cabinet members. Can a Minister in President Kufuor's government
ban him from entering the Ministry's premises?
THE ATHLETICS TEAM Congratulations to Akrofi, Amoakohene, Atiso, Lazarus, Samuel, Dawuda, Elijah, Edmund, Owusu Ansah, Steven, Akrofi, Ausbert, Musah and all the others for winning and making us proud.
MADAM SANTA CLAUSE
whom we all love.
