The Great Teachers of Prempeh College
Mr. Crosby "Osukunii" Boamah
Music teaching pioneer of the 1970s
Written by Acheampong Boamah, Butler '77
If the
organs and pianos in the Assembly halls needed a name,
it should be named after Osukuunii. Any student who passed
through his hands cannot forget this man of dedication,
discipline, honesty and humor. Even the teachers
believed in his ultimate fairness and justice.
Probably, the most popular and revered among students &
staff in the 70's. His enthusiasm in teaching and
playing piano layed the foundation for such talents
like J B Sriboe, Mr. Ansong, Mr. Oscar D, etc.
On his
return from the US in the middle 70s, he formed the
School Orchestra and brought such formidable talents
from the Army Baracks to teach instruments. He invited
none but the then US Ambassador, Shirley Temple Black,
to visit our campus with gifts of musical intruments.
Yes! the formerly renowed child Hollywood superstar
came.
Osukuunii was simply a man of practical means and
would do everything to help promote a course he
believed in. His time was always filed with planned
activities and never failed an appointment, be it piano
lessons or finding a place of shelter for a needy
student or junior worker.
He also taught music in neighboring schools, Yaa
Asantewaa, Kumasi Girls - capitulating in fringe
benefits of ease in raps between Amanfoo and the
ladies.
All his sons were organ players at Prempeh Church &
morning Services.
Well, he is my uncle, but this is no kokofu football!
He was a true inspiration to every student, teacher and
worker. Mr. Boamah is retired but active in Private
Piano teaching and Church music. He lives at Kwadaso
Estate in Kumasi.
Mr. Boamah died in 2003.
