The Great Teachers of Prempeh College

Mr. S.A. Obeng
Geography Dept. Head, 1950s,60s, & 70s

A very professional, hardworking and dedicated person who always imparted knowledge with rare generosity. As Head of the Geography Department he taught for more than 20 years at Prempeh. He was Housemaster of Freeman House for several years and later on became Assistant Headmaster. He contributed a lot to build the very strong 6th Form Geography section even if he also intervened in other fields like English Literature, B.K. and Latin. Mr. Obeng (Fly) was the the greatest Assistant Headmaster we ever got. He had to be replaced by two assistant headmasters after he left. Mr Obeng was so afraid of the headmaster that he could never be angry at the students. Every time he yelled at the students, he would always say that the headmaster will not be happy to see you disturbing. What students liked most about him was his trousers especially when he was walking to the stage during morning assembly. Do you remember how the Boamah brothers used to play the organ so that it matched whenever he pulled his trousers up? To students who complained of taking too much stuff in his class he retorted: "I am training Geographers not examination candidaates". How true his words were.
