Meet the first Mr. Prempeh

Monday, November 21, 2005

This past Saturday turned out to be one of the days that the current crop of students at the Sofoline University will forever cherish.

It will surely be engraved on their minds since it was a day that saw the actual sense of the word entertainment.

Indeed prempeh.org in collaboration with the prefectorial board has made Saturday nights now blissful at Sofoline. Gone are those days that people chose to watch only movies at entertainment and neglected the remaining activities because the event that was to be entertaining was rather boring. It therefore came to a time during the reign of Senior Kwadwo Konadu where entertainment was not compulsory. Students therefore chose to do what they cherished on saturday nights. This therefore compelled the various house prefects to use some part of the house funds to purchase DVD players for their houses so they could watch on Saturdays and not go to the assembly hall.

Now, the Ampong-led administration upon coming into office sat down with the entertainment committee headed by Mr. Quayson, popularly known as M'anomaa, and prempeh.org to devise ways and means of making entertainment the event to be present at on Saturdays.

Pearson's Augustine Boakye, a form one boy who made a lot of noise in the school about his physical features but could not win the ultimate prize. Better luck to him next year.
The eating competition was then introduced which was very successful and just last saturday, the prempeh.org manhunt. It is hoped that prempeh.org will do more for the school so the students can continue to enjoy entertainment.

At around 6:30pm, the administration was packed. This time it was not a morning assembly or emergency roll call but rather an entertainment.

The Osae Assembly hall is undergoing renovation so could not be used. Therefore the assembly grounds and the dining hall have been the places of entertainment nowadays. Students were ready to have a look at the contestants who were all eager to be called Mr. Prempeh. Indeed, these students had trained very well for the occasion knowing very well that winning the Mr. Prempeh award could serve as an opening door to them getting a fine lady from YAGSS.

After the strenuous and critical selection of the contestants, nine students made it to compete for the ultimate. The competition therefore started with some performances from some of the finest rappers on campus. The guest artist who was invited and paid for by prempeh.org came all the way from KNUST. He is a third year student at the Institute of Renewable and Natural Resources. He is yet to come out with an album and surprisingly is an Okatakyie. He came to perform on stage.

After the performance, it was time for the contestants to appear on stage and show what they have. They all went through some questioning and also exhibited their individual talents on stage. After a keenly contested competition, Mensah Debrah who was the tip of virtually everyone fumbled while answering a question dropping some of the points that he had accrued from the judges.

In the end, Prince Adu Amakwah of Ramseyer took the first position. It would be recalled that, there was a prediction on the site as to the house that could win since Ramseyer house had the best of muscular and romantic men this year. The First House finally gave us the first Mr. Prempeh winner.

First runner up Senior Mensah Debrah of Aggrey House.
Mensah Debrah of Aggrey house came in second, followed by Raymond Appiah of Guggisberg house.

The ceremony was well organised with a nice prempeh.org banner adorning the place.

Prempeh.org gave them the prizes and also the first three winners will have the privilege of dining with the senior prefects at the high table.

But the best part of Adu Amankwah's reign as Mr. Prempeh 2005/06 will come when we introduce him next term at the Annual Inter-Colleges & Super Zonals Athletics Competition at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, so all the ladies can see who exemplifies the typical Prempeh student.

We will show you a picture of him next.
