KNUST District Branch of Amanfoo Inaugurated
A new branch of the Prempeh College Old Students’ Association has been inaugurated on the campus of KNUST to enable Amanfoo in
and around KNUST contribute their quota to the development of Prempeh College. This idea was mooted because of the fact
that most lecturers and staff on campus could not make time to drive all the way down to Sofoline and attend the meetings of
the Ashanti Regional Branch due to their very busy schedule. This new branch encompasses a forum for Professors, Lecturers and Old boy graduates
of Tech living around those environs.

Welcoming Amanfoo to the meeting, Mrs. Vesta E. Adu-Gyamfi, Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Art, one of the very few females who benefited from Prempeh Sixth Form in the good old days, noted it was good to have old students come together and pool together resources to help Prempeh. She recounted some Prempeh’s great successes and hoped this was an opportunity for old students in and around KNUST to also make inputs into the College.
The chairperson for the occasion was Senior Nana Prof. K. Frimpong-Mensah, Dean of the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources, KNUST. In his opening remarks, he said it was a privilege for to join such an association. He recounted that it was during his time at Prempeh that the College had its first black headmaster, Mr. T.A. Osae who instilled a lot of discipline into them together with his chaplain. He was glad that the meeting was a mixture of the ‘old’ and ‘new’ as students would be involved in the activities of the branch.
In his inaugural speech, the National President of the Prempeh College Old Students’ Association, Senior Dr. E. Osei Kuffour gave some of the aims and objectives of the association as promoting, maintaining, and upholding the ideals for the establishment of Prempeh, encouraging learning and higher education, raising academic standards, organizing, sponsoring and financing seminars, establishing brotherliness amongst members and raising funds for the College.
He named some structures put in place by the current National Executive Council since taking office on 9th December as the Fund Raising, Public Relations, Project Implementation and Welfare committees. He also announced the appointment of Youth Coordinator, and External Coordinators in the USA, Canada and UK; and the appointment of Senior Rev. Ansong as the National Chaplain; Seniors KSM and Fritz Baffour as National MCs; Mr. E. A. Sekyere as Consultant on GES Affairs.

On projects being embarked on by Amanfoo, he mentioned the institution of the Founders’ and Pioneer Students’ Day on 3rd February each year, the construction of a hotel with conference hall at Sofoline to coincide with the 60th Anniversary and construction of a supermarket for students and staff of Prempeh.
Dr. Kuffour announced that this year’s Pearson Osae Appreciation Lectures would come off on 2nd November at Hotel De Georgia.
He hoped that the branch would work hard and help the regional branch out.
There was refreshment at the Engineering Guest House where the older Amanfoo shared their experiences with the young. They recounted some of their old days and advised the young to be of good behaviour on campus and learn hard. They said their doors were widely opened and that they could walk in and have a chat anytime.
The National Old Boys Association then issued a communiqué to the Ministry of Education regarding the computerized admissions process. The Association resolved:
- That the Ministry of Education should review the Computerized Schools and Selection Placement System (CSSPS).
- That ten percent (10%) of the total admissions of a particular school should be reserved for major stakeholders as an incentive package.
- That out of the ten percent (10%), half of it should go to the Old Students’ Association of the particular institution and the rest to the other major stakeholders.
