Senior Prefect's Report 2002/03

I have fought the good fight and have run the race and what awaits me is the crown of life…These were the words of St. Paul at the end of his missionary journey and this is our story. The torch of leadership lit by the great Amanfoo family and handed down from generation to generation was placed in our trust on the 28th of July 2002. The Kings College was emerging from a crisis period thus we were the shining light at the end of the tunnel to which all and sundry looked up to, to turn the fortunes of this college around.

Discipline is core to the success of any educational institution; the Presbyterian discipline was fast declining. We instituted inspections at prep times and on selected days of the week in the various houses. A special Prefects Disciplinary Commission was put in place. The Head Prefect headed it with able assistance from the Cadet and House Prefects. This commission among others made disciplinary recommendations to the College authorities and also helped establish the punishments at Morning Assembly. Due to the hard work of this commission, the level of awareness and discipline has risen considerably.

Another feather in our cap was the instituting of the Students’ Open Forum. The forum afforded the students the opportunity to interact with the college’s management as to how affairs are being managed. This singing of praises and offertory has also been instituted to make our services livelier and interesting.

The improvement in the quality and quantity of food in the Dining hall has brought about increased attendance in the Dining Hall. The procurement of a new public address system has also improved communication in the dining hall. The nine houses of residence have also been painted to give them a face lift.

On the academic front, we petitioned the Old Boys Association (Amanfoo) about the inadequacy of the 60 computers in the computer lab. The answer they had for us were the additional 30 computers donated by the 1977-year group during the 53rd Speech and Prize Giving Day. The training of our students in extra curricular activities has caused us to excel. The College beat Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Secondary School, Opoku Ware School, St. Augustine’s College, Adisadel College, Wesley Girls High School and Mfantsipim School in the various quizzes and debates we took part in. Prep attendance and students’ neatness at prep has also improved significantly, thanks to the hard working Prep Prefects and supervisors.

In the field of sports, we emerged victorious at the inter-colleges, but lost the trophy we won last year to Opoku Ware school by a narrow 1.5 points.

We have a firm belief in Shakespeare’s allusion that “the world is a stage with every person being an actor”, we have added our part and the onus lies on the next generation to build on the foundation already laid. We made errors that are pardonable, but are to serve as guides to all leaders. To all the teachers who have helped to make our term of office a success, we pray God’s blessings for you. To those who did not understand our actions and criticized us unjustly, we pray for God’s understanding for you. We thank Mr. Obeng-Odoom, the senior house master for his moral support and direction, Messrs. Kofi Appiah Frimpong, Justice Asare, Prince Adutwum, Ernest Duodu, Akwasi Ahmed and last but not the least the tutors of The Kings College.

Long Live Prempeh College!
