THE LATEST FROM A DEMENTED MAN

President Kufuor was in town this week. The college decided to present the Super-zonals Athletics to him at his residence on Wednesday. Because the headmaster, Chairman of the Council of Heads of Assisted Schools (CHASS) was very busy, he delegated the task of trophy presentation to the President of Ghana to his deputies.

Atiemo may not be normal after all

Mr. Atiemo, the Senior Housemaster, was going with them to President Kufuor's residence.

Amazingly, Mr. Atiemo took the trophy and started heading towards President Kufuor's home without any of the athletes that actually won the trophy.

Atiemo stepped out of the Assembly Hall and saw the 2 sports masters and, considering them insignificant, decided to go and present the trophy to President Kufuor himself. The headmaster soon came and questioned him about the logic in such practise. How could a trophy be presented to the President without the people who actually won it being present? Who is the President going to congratulate? If the President has any advice for the winners, how would they hear it? The headmaster angrily warned him and asked him to take the athletes and sports masters along.

Mr. Atiemo then called for the whole athletics team to come and join the delegates to President Kufuor's house.

But as soon as the Headmaster departed for the meeting he was heading to, Atiemo left with the trophy, leaving the "insignificant athletes and the sports masters" behind. And this wanton disrespect is what triggered Mr. Lartey's resignation threat. Obviously, this behaviour also shows that Atiemo does not respect the Headmaster.

The question the students are asking is whether Mr. Atiemo is sane at all. Is the man really sane?

This is the same atiemo who made the following remarks consistently to Goloe in the weeks preceding the athletics competition.

"Wotiri awu (you are such a blockhead), you have no aim. Stop this running business and learn. Did your father bring you to school to run? Boy you will never amount to anything if you continue to run for this school."

When Prempeh won the Inter-co athletics and was preparing for the Super-zonal athletics, Mr. Atiemo repeatedly berated the team, particularly Goloe, with the following approximate words:

"You people cannot win the Cup. Stop and just learn. You people are brainless fools. Stop and learn."

Mr. Atiemo even refused to offer the athletes any food in the dining hall.
