OWASS coach Orlando (right) with Prempeh's coach Lartey
|
We spoke to Owarean coach Orlando about it today.
Coach Orlando told us that his school was not able to hold any competition because of lack of support and consequently played only 3 matches. According to him, the team he will present to face Prempeh's Butler house will not be a true champion but rather an "approximate" champion based on his observation of the 3 matches played at OWASS before the Santasi boys lost to Nyinahene Secondary in the first game of the Milo football months ago.
We urged him to select a team from one house and not multiple houses. We emphasized that presentation of OWASS' school team will be unacceptable. We asked him to ensure that all the players selected reside in one building. He laughed at our apparent mistrust of their institution.
So, to tease him further, we called him 5 minutes later and asked, "Sir, are you sure you will present players from a single house?" He replied, "Ah, aden koraa na mobu yen se yeye akowhifuo saa? (Why do you people doubt our intergrity so much?)." It may be recalled that the first time we met with him, we made him agree to a clause that forbids his boys from throwing stones during the matches. Such is our way of mocking the Owarean experience, just as Akataslopsa President Baffour does to this writer all hours of the day.
The trophy will be donated by prempeh.org for the matches and a suitable name will be found for the annual competition.
The first leg will be played at Santasi and the return leg played at Sofoline a week later.
