With one game left to complete the Prempeh.org Inter-Houses Soccer League,
Butler House has been declared champions.
The league as expected continued today with very keen matches. The games
started in the afternoon since the morning was reserved for the school team to
train for tuesday's Milo competition matches at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.
Butler House team will receive this trophy
In the first
game, Pearson was beaten by Ramseyer, who refused to play
yesterday because they did not fancy the field that the sports master had assigned to them
for a match against Freeman.
The ace goal
scorer, Odem Boateng, who has been recruited into the school team, got the only
goal of the game for Ramsyer house.
Sadly for Ramseyer, the fact that 3 points were automatically handed to Freeman for their previous match meant
that today they did not have enough to catch Butler. Interesting, Ramseyer's last game is
against Butler; had they (Ramseyer) played their match yesterday against Freeman, they could have earned
three vital points that could have brought them nearly even with Butler, which could have then ensured that
an all-embracing defeat of Butler in the last match of the season, would have given them the trophy.
However, they are now filled with regret because they realise the trophy could have been theirs.
Aggrey house in their quest to also pull
a surprise beat Freeman house also by a lone goal. The number of goals scored
tells how keen the matches were since so many goals were not produced as all
the houses played a defensive game. After nearly 5 minutes to end of the
match, Domfeh Williams netted home the only goal that gave Aggrey house the
valuable 3 points.
Today also recorded a defeatish attitude that is very unPrempeh. Opoku Ware
house, having lost all their matches, decided to boycott their match with Osei
Tutu with the reason that, Osei Tutu house will surely beat them.
Serwaa also
demonstrated this same attitude as they ran away from the hands of the
Butler boys. Although Butler and Osei Tutu house have been awarded the 3
points with 3 goals, the boys feel it is not the best as they are also
competing for the goal king award and the MVP award. Therefore, not playing
the match has affected them adversely.
Mr. Lartey has been very infuriated by this despicable attitude. He says he is still dependent
on the league in order to consider the skill of certain players who may be of importance to the
school team.
But the boys who abandoned these important matches will likely cry when they realise on the
awards day next saturday that each house is to receive a special prize for their participation
in the league. Just for showing up and playing all those games, each house will get items for
its common room, such as DVD players and the new Sony Play Station II. But only the houses that played
100% of their matches will be given such items. In addition, there will be prizes for
the top teams, which will be announced this week.
The league will continue on Sunday; we will figure out the goal king and MVP on that day.
