Pearson 2, Aggrey 2: A classic

Saturday, July 30, 2005

Pearson and Aggrey battled each other to a 2-2 draw today. In a match that started while G'berg and Freeman were playing on another field, the Pearson boys played the role of "favourites" very well, but their skills were met with gallantry from their neighbours.

The Pearsonians, as expected, scored first through Nicholas Boadu Acheampong.

The trophy, delivered to campus on Friday, July 22nd, 2005. It reads Prempeh.org Soccer Challenge: Inter Houses League Championship. Ribbons have not been placed on it yet.

The game, which was refereed by a second referee named Ronaldo, who does not bear any striking resemblance to the Brazillian star, soon took the limelight from the Freeman-G'berg game at a time when the stadium was filled with a huge crowd, including many of the masters. The masters were there to patronise the games, unlike last week when most of them were at a funeral.

The press was well represented, as OTEC FM was around to cover the matches.

The most entertaining moment came when Butler house sang and dared any team to "score more than six in a single match." While the President's House bragged about their 6-1 thrashing of the White House, Pearson started singing "Ahmed or no Ahmed, we shall score."

But the Pearson boys must have spoken too soon, because Ahmed soon equalised for Aggrey. Within a few moments later, Aggrey scored again to show Pearson that they are equally good.

Ahmed Deedat Amoako, the national player of the year for 2005, suffered what appeared to be a thigh injury and was taken out of the game.

Pearson then went on to equalise to thrill the large crowd that was excited by the game on the field.

It wasn't until later that people realised that Ramseyer and Opoku Ware have replaced Freeman-G'berg at the other field.

When Odem Boateng scored the first goal for Ramseyer, Ernest Owusu equalised for O.W.

Amoako Gyamfi Phillip scored a second goal for O.W. House for them to lead 2-1, only for Ramseyer to go on rampage and score two straight to win the game 4-2.

There was enough time for a Serwah-Butler face-off, but the sports master considered it unfair to those teams to come and play since he did not inform them ahead of time. He planned for 3 matches, so only 6 houses were informed on Friday. But because of the joy people derived from the games today, Amanfoo started asking why we couldn't just play a fourth game before supper. The sports master felt that advance notice is necessary.

The status of Ahmed's injury is not known at this time.

Final exams begin on Monday, August 1.
