How did G'berg start with a 3-0 lead only to end with a 3-3 draw?
A poised Guggisberg house went to the Prempeh College stadium to exert revenge on Freeman, the house they had lost
to by a 7-1 margin in a friendly played the day before. The teams met on Friday to play a friendly, non-league match
to prepare their legs for saturday's showdown.
Because of the 7-1 margin of victory for Freeman, the House of Prefects arrived early saturday morning,
bragging that they would defeat G'berg by a similar margin. But the G'bergians had a different plan.
The day's activities started with the usual matchup featuring the Ashanti All-Stars, coached by former national
under-17 team coach Mr. Edusei. As the all-star team, which includes 6 Prempeh students, 3 Owareans and several
Asanteman students as well as several players from other Ashanti schools played each other, Pearson, Freeman and G'berg players
appeared in their jerseys and started their warm-up.
As soon as the All-Star game ended, G'berg and Freeman took to the field.
The house with the motto Primus Inter Pares launched an early onslaught that resulted in a penalty award, which Nii Tetteh scored.
Less than 10 minutes later Prince Appiah scored the second to make it 2-0 for G'berg.
The Gberg boys were well coordinated and organized in the first half and their efforts were rewarded again with a third goal by Amoateng Gregory,
before Kwadwo Acheampong headed in a Freeman corner to claim a goal for Freemanites before half-time.
The Freeman boys had dominated the game but the goals wouldn't come. But in the second half, G'berg failed to do what they had done in the
first half and Freeman capitalised upon that, punishing their opponents by scoring two more goals.
While these two houses were fighting so hard to find a winning goal, a better match started on another
pitch, featuring neighbours Pearson and Aggrey.
Though the Pearson-Aggrey encounter took the limelight from the Freeman-G'berg game, the stadium at
this time was filled with a huge crowd, including Butler boys who sang and dared any team to "score more than
six in a single match." While the President's House bragged about their 6-1 thrashing of
the White House, Pearson started singing "Ahmed or no Ahmed, we shall score."
Guggisberg House showed us today that they are worthy contenders for the trophy and with a similar coordination like they achieved in today's first half,
they are highly capable of challenging the likes of Ramseyer, Pearson and Butler.
