Guggisberg - the house with outstanding football pedigree that dominated inter-house soccer
competitions for over a decade in the 1980s, opens their league challenge with a match against Freeman.
But G'berg, which has historically been known as a soccer house, is bereft of the outstanding soccer players
the house had in the past. However, the G'berg boys are very confident of winning the league with the players that they have.
Their first game against Freeman is considered an "open game" (the words of Mr. Lartey). G'berg could easily
dominate Freeman and carry away three vital points.
The Great Gberg House
Because the graduating seniors (form threes) are ineligible to play in the Prempeh.org soccer league, Freeman house
is severely depleted in talent.
Most of the Freeman players are in form 3 and are not allowed to play in this league. Freeman's outstanding goalkeeper,
Enerst Opoku, who is the school team keeper, will not be in goal for the Freemanites because he's in Form 3. Guggisberg has trained
very hard during the week and have vowed to destroy Freeman.
They have watched Freeman train on the field and they have studied their weaknesses, which they are ready to exploit.
G'berg boys are also the loudest in the school as well as the most entertaining. Though the Senior Prefect, Ampong S.O, has never
kicked a ball in his life, G'bergians have put him on their list and will be taking him to the match as a reserve player.
This is to show the world that "the Senior Prefect comes from this house."
Ampong should know that his reputation is on the line, if he enters a game and plays like a pregnant woman. G'berg boys
have pledged to use him a lot.
In fact, the boys from G'berg are the most entertaining as well as vociferous on campus. Their songs are silly and they
are part of the reason why several old boys will be trooping to Sofoline on saturday morning, to enjoy the very sight of G'bergians
dancing and singing their way to victory.
One of the greatest G'berg players of all time was Dr. Kweku Ghartey, the internationally renowned Ophthalmologist
and retinal surgeon of the Massachusetts General Hospital, who was known in as "King Ghartey."
As the school team goalkeeper, King Ghartey intimidated
the opponents so much that they were reluctant to approach him.
His very presence alone intimidated the great Pearson House, which had a great team in the early 1960s.
