Ramseyer House beat Serwah in a classic game, 2-0 at the School field today.
Just before the games, which started at 10:30 am after Saturday inspection, the form 3 boys
who were not participating in inspection, had donned the jerseys of the competing teams, claiming that they
"need to play their last."
Eric Goloe created the first goal and scored the second for Ramseyer.
When inspection finally ended, both teams trotted onto the pitch and in the 7th
minute, a powerful shot by Ghana's fastest youth, Eric Goloe, rebounded to another player, who neatly connected it
into the back of the net.
This thrilled the large number of spectators who were present.
Besides the students and oldboys that trooped to
the stadium in their numbers, the press was well represented, including KESS FM. Several coaches from Kumasi teams were there to scout for talent.
George Bediako of Ramseyer was soon yellow-carded, only for Ramseyer's national star Eric Goloe to score in the 15th minute.
Serwah fought on till the end but could not get a goal.
This is the same Eric whose name was left off the list by the house prefect of Ramseyer, who felt that the star
winger needed some time off after his arrival this week from the World Youth Athletics championship.
Goloe won the match for Ramseyer today.
The games, which were supposed to be played yesterday, were postponed till 10am this morning because of the SSSCE
Core Maths exam, which 100% of the form threes had to take, and
which was starting at the very moment the
games were to kick-off.
Captain Apio, who played with the Ashanti stars this morning just before the league kicked-off.
Pearson, G'berg and Aggrey fans
chanted and sang so loud from their houses that, the WAEC Chief external invigilator suggested that the games be
re-scheduled for today, which turned out to be a blessing, owing to the large number of people that showed up today.
After prempeh.org served the press with Malta Guiness and pie at a special press reception yesterday, the Headmaster called the pressmen,
webmaster and the coaches to his office and suggested that we play all four
games today. This obviously caused the form 3's so much joy because they hated to miss any of the matches while writing the exam.
And since
they did not participate in inspection this morning,
they rose early and headed straight to the school field, where the Ashanti Regional soccer team played each other as an
under-card for the main show.
The departing captain Apio of Prempeh scored two splendid goals
by dribbling past the goalkeeper each time.
The juniors who were participating in inspection were at this time itching to rush to the field to see the Ashanti team.
But in the end, Ramseyer made the experience worthwhile.
It is not known if "Orlando," the OWASS sports master, urged Akatakyie to attend, but several Owareans, as well as boys from other schools
were there to fraternise with us. Orlando himself arrived very early in the morning to check with Mr. Lartey the preparations made for the start
of the league. But he left early (probably to attend a popular funeral in Kumasi today) after taking some ideas from his Prempeh counterpart. He needed not to spy on Prempeh's talent; the OWASS master
actually has most of the Prempeh team on his pay-roll, for he owns Kaaseman FC, a prominent first division team on the verge of qualifying for promotion to the Premiership,
that employs several Prempeh players, including the above-noted Osei Nyarko (Apio).
