Prempeh.org Challenge: Inter-Houses Soccer 2005/06

Introduction

Friday, July 8, 2004

Last year, Prempeh established the first intra-school soccer league in our nation, which was developed by former Coach Agyengo. But since he departed, the idea appears to have become "history."

Now, this website has set up a soccer league with the school, a plan we devised to help the College prepare adequately for the title defense next year.

We presented the idea of setting up and sponsoring an inter-house soccer league to our sportsmaster, Mr. Lartey, moments after we won the national Milo football championship trophy and he agreed. The first part of the sponsorship package was sent to him on Monday July 4, 2005 and the pairings for the matches were made by the Sports master on Tuesday, July 5.

There will be 147 games overall, which includes 16 games played by each of the 9 houses in the first round. That is, each house will play the other 8 houses twice -- in a home-and-away-like format -- whereupon the top 4 teams will then meet in the semifinals.

The league commences on the 22nd and the 23rd of July. It shall be played every Friday and Saturday. Each half's duration is 30 minutes, making a total of 1 hour. When school closes for the academic year in August, the league will pause and resume in September with the new form one class as participants.

Ghana's fastest youth, Eric Goloe, who is currently representing the country in Morocco, is seen here with one the sponsorship balls. The 16-year old returns to Ghana on July 17, in time for the league kick-off

Each house will recruit its best soccer players in the incoming class and have them join the house's roster. The goal is to use the league to discover and hone talent, and to recruit as many great players as possible to make our dream of winning the Ashanti trophy for the third consecutive time a reality. Obviously, winning the national championship for the second time is our ultimate goal, but winning the Ashanti trophy for keeps is our first step. This website will do whatever it takes to help the College reach this (as well as other) goals.

The games shall be played at 3 o'clock every afternoon after D'hall.

Posters of the tournament are being placed all over campus now. The sports masters are holding training sessions with each of the houses each afternoon between now and the 22nd of July, when the whole school will troop to the Prempeh stadium, which was re-grassed last Friday, to see Serwaa battle Ramseyer in the opening match.

WEEK ONE (July 22, 23)
Ramseyer vs Serwaa
Butler vs Osei Tutu
Freeman vs G'berg
Pearson vs Aggrey
Opoku Ware gets a bye

WEEK TWO (July 29, 30)
Butler vs Serwaa
Ramseyer vs Osei Tutu
Opoku Ware vs Freeman
G'berg vs Aggrey
Pearson gets a bye

We are presenting a sponsorship package that is big enough to ensure reward for even the worst house in the competition. This will motivate the boys to play with their hearts. The winner of the league plays the winner of the OWASS inter-house champion.

We are also organizing a seminar on the day of the final for Amanfoo-KNUST to come and talk to the boys about how to make successful application for admission to the University. Few students in the past have used false information to gain admission to the University only to be dismissed later -- an issue that cause us embarassment.

Buses will be hired to bring Amanfoo from Tech and other areas.

We will also have a phone number collection drive for our young Amanfoo, particularly the members of the classes of 1999-2005. We need to collect mobile phone numbers of our people; when the teachers went on strike, prempeh.org decided to mobilize our people to go to campus and teach our precious boys, but we were all dispersed. Having phone numbers of our KNUST and Legon brothers handy will be excellent in case of a future complication or emergency.

Never again shall Prempeh classrooms be closed. We will soon be interviewed on the radio in an effort to promote the games on the air.
