Joshua Owusu
A very good long, tripple and high-jumper from the late 60s.
He was one of the most feared athletes in the nation during the National
Sports Festival at the Accra Sports Stadium. He won all the Ashanti and Ghana inter-colleges long
jump, triple jump and high jump titles in 1968/69. He went on to
compete for Ghana at the 1972 Olympics and also the Commonwealth Games. His personal record in
long jump was 26ft 10 1/2 ins. He won super-zonals in Long Jump, Triple Jump
and High Jump and helped Prempeh in 400x4 Relays as well.
Francis "Basi Kunah"
Brobbey
He was a great sprinter during the late
70s and early 80s. A 100m specialist.
"Bosco" Nketia
A superb sprinter who competed in 100
and 200 meters and the relays. He was a stimulus for other great athletes
like Santo and Wallacas. One can imagine how exciting the campus was when
Prempeh had all these superstars in her line-up.
Dan "Agani" Siriboe
Agani was known for his contribution to Triple
Jump -- he won interco, super-zo, and Regionals during the early 80s.
Abbey
Abbey participated in all sports in the mid 60s.
Definitely one of the greatest.
Mike Ahey
Ahey, Stanley Allotey and Joshua Owusu (all of Prempeh) were Ghana's top three athletes for several decades. The legend Ahey, whose 100m time of 10.49secs set in 1968 was once an all-time best, now ranks in the Top 20. His 10.2secs record set in Kumasi on 4/9/64 remained a national record for decades. It now ranks in the all-time Top 5. He was Africa's best in 100m while Prempeh's Allotey reigned as the best in 200m. The great Ahey currently holds the long jump record with a jump of 8.17, which was set in Kampala on 6/10/62 - a record that is 42 years old and remains the longest held record in the history of Ghana's athletics. Even his worst jump of 7.97 (set on 5/5/74) ranks 4th on Ghana's all-time list.
Koranteng (Sok)
Amass' duo of Owusu Frempong (Thunder) and Kwadwo Duodu (formerly of Prempeh) were taken on by Koranteng (Sok) of Serwah in the Finals of the Interco table tennis competition.
He beat Duodu and lost narrowly to Thunder, he was just great, he was one of the best to play the game.
It was as if he was possessed, it was just wonderful.
