The closure of one chapter leads to the opening of another. And so it was when we were ushered into office on the 28th July, 2002. On that day, we received not diadems to lord over others but we came as shepherds to begin our period of servanthood to the school as a whole and Serwah House in particular, a baton to continue a race began by others.
The expectations of the members of the house were high and this meant hard work on the part of we the leaders. “Thoughts have power, thoughts have energy. One can make or unmake his world with his thinking”. In thought therefore, we remained positive and objective in our bid to transform Serwaa House to become one of the best in the school. This we sought to do working with the members of the house as a team. We allowed no time for fantasizing and thus began our duty in earnest.
Discipline is a pre-requisite for success. We thus strove to maintain a high level of discipline. This was one of the first steps we took at the embryonic stage of our leadership. The response to school functions and other activities by members of the house is an indication of the high level of discipline that has been maintained. I must also say that the dressing code and general behaviour put up by the members of the house are highly commendable. The excellent academic performance of members in terminal and general examination makes it clear that the standards set by past members of the house are being maintained. It is worth noting that members of the house have established themselves as academic giants who aim at achieving the best. It is therefore not surprising that the house has 3 of its members in the science and maths quiz team. Serwaa house therefore comes into mind when it comes to the best house in terms of academics. In fact, the standards of the house, academically, have become a benchmark.
It is an outstanding fact that cleanliness has a great impact on a man’s life. With this in mind, we took it upon ourselves as leaders to ensure that the surroundings of the house are always clean. As a result, there has been a remarkable improvement in the results achieved in the general inspections held on weekly basis.
In the area of sports, the performance by members was creditable. In the inter-houses athletics competition, we put up a sterling performance coming first, second and third in the finals at 100m, 200m and 400 races respectively in the junior division. We were also third in one of the field events (javelin). There was also a marvelous performance in the other sporting events by members of the house. We were also third in football.
We would like to express our profound gratitude to our hardworking housemaster, Mr. E.K. Ofori who has been of immense help. Through our efforts, the house has new drying lines, new mosquito nets and new sofa in the common room among others. We are also grateful to the executive of the house fellowship who worked tirelessly to enhance the spiritual growth of the house members. To the S.S.S 3 students who have been supportive and co-operative in the management of the affairs of the house, we say Bravo!
A light has come to Serwaa House and we hope the continuing student take an inspiration from our motto “vel primus vel cum primus” (always the best or among the best), and forge ahead to achieve the best. To God be the glory.
