President John Agyekum Kufuor congratulated the Black Stars
for beating the Cranes of Uganda in Kumasi in the qualifier
in the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
President Kufuor, who was receiving the Stars and their technical
handlers at the Castle, also commended their handlers for the sweet victory that
has brought Ghana closer to realising the dream of making its first ever
World Cup appearance in Germany 2006.
The GFA presented to President Kufuor a jersey of the National
Team with the number 10 embossed on it.
Senior Samuel Adade, the national track star arrived at Middle Tennessee State University on full
athletic scholarship. Adade was a reserve on Ghana's Athens Olympics athletics team.
August 2005:
Kumawuhene Barimah Asumadu Sakyi opened the Oil Palm at Kumawu in the Sekyere East District in August,
a project he established as part of the President's Special Initiatives (PSI).
The nursery project, which is being undertaken by Sparrow Plantation Limited and the Oil Palm Research
Institute, will support farmers who will take advantage of the PSI on Oil Palm in the area. The Kumawu
Traditional Council has already released about 19,000 hectares of land to support the project.
The Farms, which has about 245,000 layers, also produces 80,000 chicks a week.
President Kufuor attended the G8 Summit in the UK, which was his 3rd
invitation to the summit.
July 2005:
In July, Senior Stephen Adei, the President of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) and Rector of the Ghana
Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA),
called for the amendment of the Constitution to increase the tenure of the government from
four to seven years. He said that would reduce the cost and energy spent on who would rule
Ghana and save the nation from the disruptions associated with installing a new government
every four years, as well as allow for a strategic longer frame management of the economy.
He was speaking at the 16th National Marketing Performance Awards in
Accra. He also proposed the provision of two vice-presidents for the country.

Senior William Ofori Boafo, Deputy Minister of Defence, was the Special Guest at a Republic Day
ceremony celebrated in Sierra Leone.
He visited Ghanaian troops serving with the United Nations Mission in the country.
Nana Ofori Agyemang II, the Adansihene and President of
Adansi Traditional Council is dead. The 69-year-old chief
died on July 15 after a short illness. The Senior was installed as Adansihene
in June 1997.
Class of '99, Senior Dominic Oduro, is shining at the university level in the USA and is considered
good enough to play professionally if he so desires.

In a ESPN article
entitled New Blood Part 2, the network highlighted the
achievements of Prempeh's Dominic Oduro,
who plays soccer for the Virginia Commonwealth University, and picked him as a player likely to lead his team to the national
collegiate soccer championship title. Oduro, the All-American star
who is a contender for the national player of the year, is likely to lead VCU very far this year.
Oduro of the Prempeh Class of '99, played for Richmond Kickers PDL team this past summer and was named to
the All-Eastern Conference Team.
He recorded four goals in a 5-2 victory over the fifth-ranked team in the nation, University of North Carolina and
registered a pair of goals in 2-2 tie at top-seeded Wake Forest in the NCAA Tournament, as VCU advanced on penalty kicks.
In the national quarterfinals last year, he scored a first-half goal against the nation's
number 1 team, UC Santa Barbara.
June 2005:
The Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Prof. Agyemang Badu Akosah
revealed to Peace FM that he takes a genuine leave once in a while and go
to the United Kingdom (UK) to work for some more money.
Akosah, a past president of the Ghana Medical Association,
admitted that anytime he takes a leave of duty, he goes to the UK
to work and earns not less than £2000-a week (33 million cedis).
He said that he is compelled to do this because, his pensionable salary,
as Director-General, is three point two-five (¢3:025) million cedis. He said
other allowances computed to this put his salary at close to ¢9million.

The US Secretary of State, Condoleeza Rice, met President Kufuor behind closed doors later.
She described President Kufuor as a
good friend of the USA and an influential African leader who ought to be
emulated by his peers.
April 2005:
The National Media Commission (NMC)
directed the Vanguard newspaper to retract stories
it had written about Mr. Kweku Sintim-Misa, which among other things
described him as an NDC-paid comedian. The newspaper was also directed to render
unqualified apologies to Mr. Sintim-Misa.
The stories also claimed that KSM was bitter because the NPP had refused his plea to give his wife a job, which KSM denied.
Not only did he point out that he was not an NDC-paid comedian, he also said he possessed a Master of Science degree
in film and television production and that comedy was to him, a profession.
March 2005:
When the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi
organised a Very Important Personality (VIP) charity
auction sales to raise funds to support its endowment fund, Senior K. Sintim-Misah, also called KSM,
was among the VIPs who donated to the cause.
The fund, which was established as part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the hospital was
aimed at making funds available at all times to enable the hospital achieve its vision of
becoming a centre of excellence in the next four years.
KATH raised 50.3 million cedis at the ceremony.
Mr. K. Baah-Wiredu, Ghana's Finance Minister, inspected the havoc caused by the
fire outbreak at the PSC Tema Shipyard at Tema.
According to the Ghana News Agency, "a Togolese registered vessel, MV Polaris, which
had been undergoing maintenance work for three months at the PSC Tema Shipyard's
Slipway adjacent to the TOR pipeline and VALCO conveyor belt caught fire with the
loss of at least 17 lives. Firemen have retrieved 15 bodies. Sparks from welding
works on the vessel allegedly caused the fire upon contact with oil slick from
the TOR pipeline."
Installations affected were the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) pumping station and
pipeline, VALCO conveyor belt, VRA pumping house and other adjoining
companies--the Kiku Cold Store and Dolphins Shipping Companies.
January 2005:
President John Kufuor, who was elected to a second term of the presidency in December 2004,
was sworn-in during the inauguration for his second term in Accra, Ghana, on Friday, Jan. 7, 2005.

Ghana-Canada Beauty pageant and culture show. Senior LaKumi is seen in this photo with a runner up he
presented an award to -- Western Region representative of the pageant.
