Everyone knew the contest was going to be a tough one and indeed it lived up
to the bill.
Prempeh has not met Pope Johns in any round of
the National
Science and Maths Quiz before though they have met St Peters who are also from
the Eastern Region.
The Pojoba boys thronged the place as if
they were in the final. The Amanfoo in Accra also came in their numbers to
throw their weights behind the gentlemen from the Sofoline University. It
was a spectacular sight as the prayers of Presecans and Owareans was that
Prempeh would follow them out of the contest. That was not to be as Jeffrey,
Mawuli and Dompreh were determined to climb the hill.
The contest was so close from the beginning to the end as Prempeh led with 8
points and then later Pojoba cut the lead to 4 in the second round. The
round thwarted the dream of the Prempeh boys who were bent on netting 95
points and above as the Chemistry question that was given as the problem of
the day was a hard nut to crack.
With both schools earning 1 point out of 10 points, the contest was far from
over as Prempeh held on to their 4 point lead.
The round 4 was not anything
different as both schools had difficulty solving the Chemistry questions.
The Maths questions were very easy for both schools.
The round 5 was the
decider. Prempeh got one riddle right and Pojoss got two right
courtesy of Bolanyo who was a thorn in the flesh of the Amanfoo.
In the end, Prempeh secured 67 points to win it while Pope Johns had 62
points. Prempeh will meet St Peters in the quarter final on Saturday in a
contest that is termed as "operation breaking the jinx."
