Though the prizes for this year's National Science and Maths Quiz champions
are not known, it promises to be a keener one as all the schools present
today at the New N1 Block of the University of Ghana were full of
confidence.
Contestants of various schools were seen reading their books and notes while
others also calculated and solved some Maths and Physics questions. There
was absolutely no sign of inferiority complex as has been seen by some
schools over the years.
The opening ceremony started a bit late in the afternoon. An opening prayer
was said by one of the students while the Prime Time Organiser, Mr Nathaniel
Tetteh gave a speech. That was followed by the introduction of schools
present. The organisers made it known that the actual prize for this year's
competition is not yet known but be it a Jubile Year, the prizes are going
to be really immense.
Moreover, 6 students will be selected to represent Ghana and then meet other
schools in Nigeria for the West Africa National Science and Maths Quiz which
is the sole initiative of Prime Time. There was then time for the balloting
and the ball was set rolling for the first contest of the day.
Prempeh College picked the 14th contest along side Archbishop Porter Girls.
The contest may come off on Friday depending on how progressive the other
competitions will be. Failure to complete the first 13 contests on
time will shift Prempeh's imminent victory over Archbishop Porter Girls to
next week Monday.
The zeal of the boys is overwhelming so let us all give them the needed
push.
In the mean time we expect Kumasi's TI AMASS to send the famous Wesley Girls home in the first round
battle tomorrow.
