An English thinker once wrote, "If you sow your seeds with faith and
you care for them with perseverance, it's only a question of time until
you reap a harvest of rewards." How right was he as Prempeh College
over the years sowed seeds with faith and they yielded bountifully.
The tradition however changed some years go when masters started demanding
huge motivations and incentives, when headmasters cared less about the
Science and Maths Quiz and focused on other things, when the students
themselves became indisciplined and could not stick to their books.
While these were happening, other schools that trailed Prempeh College in
the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) outran Prempeh College in their
quest for laurels. Presec blazed the trail when they won the trophy for
the 3rd time last year. Preempeh failed in their bid to clinch the trophy
for the 3rd time in 1997 when they lost to a stubborn Santasi side and again in
2000 when they lost by a point to St Peters. St Peters
have also over the years been a strong team to contend with. Their presence
at the Quiz grounds is felt by all the other school as their vociferous
fans sing every time they are competing.
Achiomta School did well when the NSMQ was held on their premises. But now it appears as if
the spirit to do well has been dampened after Primetime changed the venue
to the University of Ghana campus. Presec will forever be a thorn in the
flesh of most schools. This year, wesley Girls will show up. They show up
every 5-10 years when they realise that they are ptrepared for the quiz or
they have one "supernatural" student in their team. Let's see what they
will do this year.
If the Wey Gey Hey Girls' behaviour is anything to go by then the quiz will be a flop as
all schools will wait to get a "guru" before they accept to be part of the
competition.
There will be new introductions and new faces this year.
YAGSS will be coming after a long period in the wilderness. Konongo
Odumasi will be in contention this year.
This year will be full of action. The whole world wants to know if PRESEC
can retain the trophy. Others want to see if Prempeh will do it for the
third time and equal the record of Presec. Others also want to see whether
the fire-power of the Motowners is still blazing. Can Peters pull another
surprise? Will any "mushroom" school spring a shock? 11th July will tell. That is the day for the final.
prempeh.org will get you the results and live reports of this year's contest.
