National Science & Maths Quiz 2006

National Quiz set for June

The National Science & Maths Quiz competition will be held in June this year, instead of the usual April because of the changes in the SSS exam schedule.

The SSSCE has been replaced by the WASCE, which is scheduled to be written in May, which means that the national quiz competition had to be held at a different time slot.

Originally it was supposed to have been held in February/March, but a majority of the schools protested that they were not ready and needed more time.

It also became impossible to hold it in the usual April/May period because contestants couldn't have camped in Accra for weeks while writing their WASCE exams on their respective campuses at the same time.

The organizers have since set a June date for the prestigious national compeition.

Obviously, because contestants would have already written their final year exams (including all the Sciences) by then, the excuse of "we were not ready" will be invalidated.

The only problem that this change of schedule brings is that all the universities and schools in the capital city will be closed by then, which means not many people will patronise it as live audience members. Though this is good in a way (because the host school Achimota will not have a home-advantage), it is also important schools be able to bring their own fans to cheer them on.

Prempeh.org has a great plan to help motivate our contestants during the competition. But we will not reveal it here because of our opponents' penchant for taking our ideas from this website and implementing them in their alma maters. A good example of that is the money we sent to our contestants to enable them camp at Sofoline in early January. Somebody from an Accra school read that here and sent the school money with the instructions that, "the Prempeh people just went to prepare on their campus; Take this money and bring in our contestants to campus for them to match the Kumasi school boot-for-boot."

Here are the members of our Big 12, 8 of whom are are shown in the photos below:
