National Science & Maths Quiz 2006

Prempeh's dream ends

Thursday, June 29, 2006

The journey and aspirations of the Prempeh team towards the winning of the trophy of this year's National Science and Maths Quiz was thwarted today by the defending champions, St Peters.

The contest started with so much tension in the atmosphere. The whole place was noisy as Peters bus had brought to the quiz premises some students of the school to come cheer their boys up.

Prempeh also had so many old boys around including the President of the Amanadehyee Legon branch.

The quiz mistress made her way to the room while the contestants all went upstage. The first questions to both schools were answered correctly and the first round had both schools scoring the same points.

In the second round, St Peters took the lead as they had 6 points ahead of Prempeh College. The Biology questions in this round was the decider as the Prempeh boys had 2 out of the 3 points any time Sebastian answered a question.

However, Prempeh College bounced back in the third round by answering the "problem of the day" question correctly and led Peters by 2 points.

The whole auditorium had everybody clapping since it was a ding-dong affair here. One wondered who was going to win until the St Peters lads took the lead once again in the fourth round with 7 points. The boys held on to this lead till the fifth round when both schools equally shared the marks. Each of the schools answered the riddles to the amazement of even the quiz mistress, Dr Essilfie Kauffman.

Prempeh therefore were eliminated while St Peters move on to the semi-final where they meet St Francis Xavier tomorrow. The Prempeh boys wept a little bit but the Presecans who were around to cheer the boys encouraged them. After all, they didnt disgrace themselves. James Marfo was in the middle of the contest this time around for St Peters. He came over from Kumasi after the school offered him some money.

People are predicting a final between St Peters and PRESEC.
