Prempeh take on defending champions in quarter final
Wednesday, June 28, 2006
The battle keeps on getting tougher and tougher. With eight schools left in
the race to winning the trophy, it is a do or die affair. The organisers
of the National Science and Maths Quiz this evening announced that the
four contests will all take place tomorrow. It came as a surprise though
but all the schools are ready for the showdown.
While Opoku Ware takes on Tamale Secondary, St Augustine's will be locking
horns with PRESEC, Legon.
St Francis Xavier meets St Thomas Aquinas in
another encounter while Prempeh College takes on St Peters, the defending
champions.
It promises to be full of fun and excitement tomorrow at the University of
Ghana campus.
Any school that leaves the contest has done so well since
this year's event has been full of surprises and has also been keenly
contested. The pairings from the start of the contest tells it all.
Two time champions, Achimota could not face the in-form St Thomas
Aquinas; also while people expected the contest between Mfantsipim and
PRESEC to be challenging, the Kwabotwe boys were abysmal on the day.
Tomorrow's encounter between Prempeh College and St Peters which will be
the last or the fourth contest of the day, has seen the Peters
administration luring their best student to Accra. James Marfo, the quiz captain
of the Peters team who decided to boycott the contest gets to Accra this
evening.
When Prempeh.org spoke to our contestant Aning Daniel Gyawu, he said that
even though the task
is daunting, they will make it. "We are determined to win the
trophy. That's all," Gyawu said.
The defending champions have therefore named
the contest, "the final before the final" since they already know the
pedigree of the school they face tomorrow. The Prempeh College boys are
confident they will win this contest as a revenge for the defeat suffered
at the hands of the Akwatia boys in 2000.
