The contest between Prempeh and Louis will be remembered as one of the best in the history of
the famous competition.
For 3 long rounds, the Louis Girls refused to give Prempeh any lead. The 2 schools battled each other boot
for boot until late when Prempeh broke away.
Unlike the other schools, who were able to achive over 90 points because their weak opponents got many questions
wrong and came back to them as bonus points, Louis never gave Prempeh any bonus points, hence our 75 points total.
If Prempeh had met some other schools, such as the one PRESEC faced, we could have earned over 120 points.
But this Louis team is not a group any team can walk over. they fough hard and held Prempeh to only 75. the girls were so brilliant that
after the show, the Primetime staff magnanimously debated the merits of bending the rules to allow St. Louis to return next year. Traditionally
all schools that lose in the first round are ineligible to participate the following year.
This Louis group was so good that the oraginizers felt bad about leaving them out next year. But other members of the organizing body
argued that when an excellent Prempeh side was defeated in the first round by Apam Secondary
several years ago, the rules were not waived for Prempeh. Consequently, St. Louis will not return next year.
The contest was fierce as the loser was to miss next year's edition of the quiz
and with the support given by all the schools to St Louis, it was really tough for
the gentlemen from Sofoline.
It all started when the Accra Girls, Roses and Aburi Girls sang and cheered the
ladies from Oduom. The ladies felt they could do better than the men so should be
pushed forward.
The cheers and claps by these ladies were complemented by schools
such as Achimota and Adisadel College (Prempeh's next opponents) who felt
Prempeh College should be
discouraged and frustrated. The elimination of Prempeh, as said by one Achimotan, wil
make the winning of the trophy easy for them.
Just as it is the prayer of England, Italy, Germany and Argentina that Ghana
eliminates Brazil so they could easily win the 2006 World Cup, so was the
situation for Prempeh on Saturday.
Even in the midst of the shouts and taunts, the boys made it and thought the ladies
how to win a contest.
