As was expected, the local derby between Prempeh College and St Louis
churned out a whole lot to cheer about in this year's edition of the
National Science and Maths Quiz.
The contest started with both schools on each other's throat as the loser is
bound to stay in Kumasi and forget about next year's quiz contest. First round losers
are not allowed to participate in the competition the following year.
Though St louis were the underdogs, they proved a point here. The contest
was so hot that at the end of the third round, both schools had earned the
same points. The atmosphere in the room was so tensed with some of the
schools supporting Louis to help eliminate the Amanfoo so that they could capture
the trophy easily.
Almost all the schools think Prempeh is the school to be a thorn in their
flesh so our elimination will bring so much joy.
Prempeh College led the contest in the 4th round and finally showed the
girls they knew the answers to the riddles since they have watched videos
bought for them by prempeh.org.
In the end, Prempeh had 75 points while Louis had 61. The contest is one of
the keenest so far with both schools leaving no room for a bonus question to
be answered by the opponent.
It is however unfortunate that, Prempeh College has thwarted the dreams of
the current form two students on the campus of St louis to take part in next
year's contest. By virtue of this first round defeat, the girls at St. Louis are ineligible to compete
in the program next year. Unfortunately for them, they also sat home last year after losing in the
first round to Bolga Secondary in the first round of the 2004 competition.
But at least they show up and put up an effort; when will our own Yaa Asantewaa Girls participate
in such academic endeavour?
Mr Addai, the head of physics department said after the contest that, the boys
showed so much determination and courage since meeting a local school isn't
easy to beat in such a contest. He assured all Amanfoo of the trophy this
year.
