National Science & Maths Quiz 2006

Prempeh conquers Cape Coast

Wednesday, April 19, 2006

Following the decision of some schools in Kumasi and Brong Ahafo to evade competing with Prempeh College in trial Science Quizzes out of fear or respect of the gentlemen, the college's National Science and Maths Quiz co-ordinators travelled to Central Regional capital to search for their match.

It could be recalled that attempts by the college to get schools in Ashanti Region to compete with the boys proved futile with the schools giving excuses ranging from poor preparation to transportation problems.

As that served as a great impediment to the masters getting knowledge of the output of the boys, a trip was made during the easter festivities to Oguaa.

The presence of Amanfoo was felt as soon as they arrived. The boys were hosted by Mfantsipim School for the period that they stayed in Cape Coast and competed with them on the Good Friday.

Prempeh College was represented by Aning Daniel Gyawu (Aggrey), Yeboah Tannoh Lewis (Serwah) and Okyere Prince Sebastian (Butler). The competition was dubbed the "father vs. son" showdown by the Kwabotwe boys because they feel Prempeh College was born out of them. Prempeh's founding headmaster Rev. Sidney Pearson was an Assistant headmaster at Mfantsipim when he got the call to come and establish Nana Prempeh's golden school. Perhaps it was in recognition of this bond that Prempeh's Pearson house adopted Dwen Hwe Kan (the motto of Mfantsipim) as its motto.

The Prempeh boys led by Sebastian made a clean sheet in the first round by getting all the question right to the amazement of all the Kwabotwe boys. In the end, Prempeh had 87 points while the Mfantsipim boys had 80 points. A hurdle was croseed with the co-ordinators having knowledge of the weaknesses and strengths of our boys.

On Saturday, the boys had two quizzes. The first of the quizzes was with Adisadel College and later in the evening with Aggrey Memorial Secondary School.

Prempeh's dominance over Adisco was obvious as the gentlemen led the competition from round one to the last round which Asare Baah Andrews (OT House) took it so lightly answering all the riddles. In the end, the Adisco guys were beaten by 13 points.

Aggrey Memorial was to serve as supper for the hungry boys who wanted to prove to all and sundry that they are really in for action come this June.

Just like they did to Adisadel and Mfantsipim, the boys beat Aggrey Memorial; this time with a wide margin as Prempeh scored 85 points with Aggrey having 68 points.
