National Science & Maths Quiz 2005
Prempeh is all set
Tuesday, April 26, 2005
The Prempeh squad is really determined and their confidence level is higher than that of last year.
We arrived at the quiz premises at 7:50am, just in time before the opening ceremony began and presented them with
the elegant prempeh.org t-shirts the Headmaster suggested we make for them. The shirts were designed by Senior Dwomoh, Class of 2002.
When presented with the shirts, Banson, the fourth contestant, jumped in excitement,
screaming that "that's the site for students!, that is the only student-oriented website in Ghana. No school has its student body reading a
website regularly but Prempeh." Our cameraman was there to take several pictures of the boys in the shirts. In fact, one whole
roll of film was spent on them.
They went on to express their happiness with what the website has done for several Prempeh students. The thought
of the immediate-past Senior Prefect, VY Gyabaah, who was made famous by this website,
being appointed Assistant Headmaster at a school in his native Dormaa-Ahenkro at a remarkable age of 18, and
soccer captain Chibsah earning a scholarship to study in the USA based on their appearance on the website inspires the team,
particularly Banson. They strongly feel that they will be the next icons to benefit from the website's publicity.
We presented them with padlocks to be used to lock their rooms because of the
calculators that were stolen from our camp
in the heat of the moment last year.
We have also enlightened them about the Quizmistress and the tricks she used to intimidate and frustrate Prempeh
contestants last year. They have been taught exactly how to maintain their composure.
Videotapes of past quizzes from 1995-2004 has been purchased for them by prempeh.org, and late Monday night Senior Kojo Ntow was roaming around Accra
searching for a video cassette recorder for them to use to watch the videos. Luckily for our boys, their first match is not until Thursday. They will have ample time to
watch videos this week and over the weekend, before the second round commences next week.
