Ashanti Schools leading

The National Science & Maths Quiz competition is in its Round of 16, and the Ashanti Region has the largest number of schools in the prestigious competition. Besides Ashanti champions Prempeh and runner-up T.I.AMASS, OWASS and Kumasi Anglican Secondary School (KASS) - a school known more for its soccer prowess - are also in the final 16.

T.I.AMASS is favoured to eliminate a comparatively weak St. Peter's team on Tuesday while KASS will put up a great challenge against Accra's PRESEC.

OWASS has already qualified for the quarter-finals by beating the host school Achimota 86-83. The Owareans trailed all through the competition, until the last minute they tied it at 83-83. They answered all the riddles correctly while Achimota got all their riddles wrong.

It is possible to have an all-Ashanti final if OWASS emerges victorious in their bracket, whereupon they will face Prempeh or AMASS in the final. But to get there, the Saints of Santasi will need to defeat PRESEC at the semifinal. The Owareans has an easy quarterfinal matchup against the winner of Bolgatanga - Archbishop Porter Girls duel.

Meanwhile Prempeh takes on Accra Academy on Tuesday morning, at 10:30am; the winner faces the winner of the GSTS - Tamale contest. If Prempeh overcomes the GSTS - Tamale winner in the quarterfinal, we will likely face T.I.AMASS (who are expected to defeat St. Peter's tomorrow) in the semifinal. That will mean that 3 of the final four teams will come from Ashanti.

Prempeh.org's prediction is that Prempeh, OWASS and AMASS will represent the Ashanti Region in the semifinals. PRESEC will be the other semifinalist. And Prempeh will eliminate AMASS to meet OWASS-PRESEC winner in the National final on saturday.
