Before the start of the first round quiz competition between Prempeh and Kinbu, the
whole place was dead silent with the Presecans boasting of their 95 score just to intimidate our boys.
Amanfoo had to step in to remind the boys not to listen to anyone because we knew
they do not fear any school in the land.
Moments later the boys were called to go to the dressing room to have their faces "polished" with make-up since
the program is televised on national television.
After the make-up session, the audience were waiting for the Quiz mistress to come and sit.
What happened next surprised everyone as Amanfoo started clapping for the Prempeh contestants
as they climbed the stage. When the contestants were finally introduced to the audience, OWASS old boys
started claping for the Kinbu boys, which was exactly what we expected. The Owareans
themselves were no match for Prempeh this year in Ashanti.
They even lost to T.I. AMASS in the semi-final of Ashanti Quiz competition.
Furthermore, they turned down our request for a friendly quiz competition.
At about 9.15am, Senior Kojo Ntow and some Amanfoo of the Class of 2003 stepped out of a car and made their entry to the hall.
The first question was posed to Premeh and we had it wrong. That was an occasion of
panic but we didn't worry because they did the same in the Ashanti quiz final
against AMASS in Kumasi. They had their first question wrong in the Ashanti finals and answered all the others right.
The question they got wrong today was about complementary colours.
Kinbu also had thiers wrong and Prempeh took the bonus.
The place was very silent because so many of the Presecans whose school
is just a stone throw from Achimota came like bees and were there to see
the performance of our team because according to one of their contestants,
"the only school we fear is Prempeh but agoro ne fam" -- "agoro ne fam" meaning
when it comes to the quiz, they will kick us out.
In all we had only 4 major questions wrong and one bonus question wrong. A bonus question is
a question that is awarded to us after our contestant fails to answer.
After the quiz, all were happy but the boys from PRESEC were seen together plannning their next line of action.
As the Owareans were leaving the hall with downcast faces, we overheard them say "eiii, this year is really hell."
We will support them next week when they face Achimota School, to ensure an all-Ashanti final.
Although the Santasi boys have been frustratingly substandard this season in Kumasi, losing to AMASS, when
national spotlight calls - especially in Accra - they have so far risen to the occasion. And this year will be no different.
An OWASS victory over Achimota will ensure purging of favouritism in the final, given that the Quizmistress is
a product of Achimota.
